Closing in on 2200 FIDE after a 2371 performance in the SixDays IM norm tournament in Hungary. I was one point off a norm but very happy to be +59 rating points.

The FIDE Chess Olympiad has really had it all the last few days... floodwater threatens to drown our hotel, our women's team defeated Israel and had the chance to play China, and we celebrated David Smerdon's 40th birthday at the Bermuda party. Though we were able to beat New Zealand, England proved too difficult a task for the Australian chess team. 2.5-1.5 was the final score against the old enemy and now we're the favourites heading into our round 6 clash with Kyrgyzstan

I only had time for a short blog today as I've got a list of admin tasks including talking to FIDE about our island flooding, registering for the Bermuda party, washing the team uniforms, and most importantly, preparing to beat the "old enemy" England in Rd. 5.

The second round of the 2024 FIDE Olympiad pitted dangerous teams against top seeds and there were several drawn matches among these clashes.
