A song like Money for Nothing is a perfect example of why our sound packs are much more than a collection of presets.

Before the first verse even begins, you’ve already got the opening arpeggio, the huge layered string pad, the right-hand lead sound, and the signature pitch rise that builds the intro. Once the song gets underway, the setup transitions to the digital FM-style clav, the organ parts, and the other sounds that carry the arrangement.

Trying to recreate all of that from individual presets means deciding which sounds to use, building the splits and layers, programming the Scenes, assigning the controllers, balancing the effects, and making sure every transition happens exactly when you need it.

You can load and play the sounds from the 14-Pack Bundle into ESP, the software plugin version of the Montage M and retain all included sample data and arpeggios. You will need to make sure that your plugin host is set to the correct BPM to run the arps correctly. In this case I’m using Gig Performer to host ESP. You will also have to assign scene and controller buttons.

If you already own a Kronos, you know how much work goes into building authentic live Combis. Every song needs its own layers, splits, controller assignments, effects, and careful balancing before it’s ready for the stage.

The Kronos 80s & Beyond pack bridges the gap between owning a Kronos and having one that’s truly ready for the stage.

As the third upgrade to my original 80s Booster series, it combines years of refinement with authentic analog source material sampled from my own Oberheim OB-X8, Prophet-5 Rev4, and Moog Minimoog Model D. The result is a collection designed to capture the character of the original recordings while remaining practical for live performance.

Installation is straightforward. Programs load into UG and UGG, preserving every factory Program in the Kronos 3. A dedicated Set List is supplied separately, so none of your existing Set Lists are overwritten.

Every Combi also includes performance documentation covering keyboard ranges, controller mapping, sound transitions, and setup notes, making it easy to understand exactly how each performance is intended to be played.

Currently overseas away from my studio and my Montage M.

With a second-hand midi controller I got from a thrift store, my iLoud speakers and my MacBook, I can still load and play my sounds from the Favorite Covers 14-Pack Bundle using the ESP software that came with my Montage M. It’s a great solution for interstate or international gigs where bringing your Montage M or MODX M isn’t an option.
