🐾 Stella has come such a long way!

This girl is absolutely loving life. 💜

Stella can now head out onto the oval, have a run and a play off leash, stay close, check in with her humans and come back when called. And the best part? She’s choosing to stay connected even when she has the freedom to go and explore.

That didn’t happen overnight.

Being off leash is a privilege that Stella has earned through lots of consistency, practice and trust.

But we’ve also worked on something just as important: fun doesn’t only happen when the leash comes off.

We can play on leash. We can explore on leash. We can train, sniff, run around and have a great time on leash too.

So now, for Stella, the leash isn’t the big deal it once was. On or off, life is still fun and her human is still worth checking in with.

And that’s what we wanted. 💜

🚌🐾 Beep beep! YoPaws puppies coming through!

Today’s Special Community Training took us somewhere a little different… the Belconnen Bus Depot! 💜

Our dogs and assistance dogs in training got to explore a bus, practise getting on and off, find their comfy spots and then go for an actual bus ride! 🐶🚌

There were wagging tails, lots of treats, a few “ummm… what is this giant moving thing?” moments 😂 and plenty of opportunities to just stop, watch and take it all in.

Because exposure doesn’t mean “just deal with it.”

New things should be introduced safely, at a pace each dog can handle. Some dogs jump straight in. Some need a little more time. Both are completely okay.

The aim isn’t to force confidence. It’s to create experiences where confidence has a chance to grow. 🌱🐾

A HUGE thank you to Transport Canberra ACTION buses, the team at Belconnen Bus Depot, and especially Michelle and Scott for letting our slightly furrier-than-usual passengers come along for the adventure! 😂💜

We had an absolute blast and would love to visit again!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dog dads out there! 💙🐾

For all the walks, the treats, the games, the adventures, the cuddles, and the times you say “I’m not giving you any more”... then somehow another treat appears. 😂

Our CEO Yoshi would like to wish all the dads, granddads, dog dads, and father figures in our YoPaws community a very Happy Father’s Day.

🐾 “Why won’t my dog listen?”

It’s a question we hear a lot in dog training.

With J, we’re discovering that she actually picks things up pretty quickly. The key isn’t just teaching her what to do. It’s finding the right connection, motivation and encouragement that makes working together worthwhile for her.

Every dog is different, and part of training is figuring out what makes your dog tick.

What motivates them?
What helps them engage?
Are we making it clear what we’re asking?
And most importantly, are we building that connection together?

For J, we’re finding those answers and using them to help her learn and succeed. 💛

Sometimes, instead of asking “Why won’t my dog listen?”, we can ask:

“What does my dog need from me to want to work with me?”

That little change in perspective can make a pretty big difference. 🐶✨

A huge congratulations to Team Bentley on successfully completing their Public Access Test today! 💜

And a big thank you to Woofy & Whiskers and Gungahlin Marketplace for welcoming us and giving Team Bentley the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a real community environment.

A PAT is about much more than ticking boxes. It’s about showing that a dog and handler can safely and confidently navigate the community together, while keeping the dog’s welfare at the centre.

Well done, Team Bentley. You should both be very proud of what you achieved today! 💛🐾

Do stuff with your dog.

Let them move, make choices, play, have friendships, switch off and maybe even give them a massage. 🤣

Walk, run or hike together. Explore places. Sniff things. Be silly. Have a nap. Have days where nothing productive happens.

Especially with working and assistance dogs, it’s easy for everything to become training. But not every outing needs a goal and not every moment needs to be productive.

All work and no play or downtime makes anyone cranky and unregulated.

Give them a good life, not just a job.

Working dogs are dogs first. 🐾💜
