Eccentric Education is back presenting workshops for Term 2 in the Canberra/Sydney regions. We've introduced a new workshop into our repertoire and we're looking forward to visiting primary and secondary schools over the new term.

How quickly has the year gone! With Term 4 on the horizon, now is the time to start talking to us about Term 4 workshops. We've added a new workshop to our repertoire for years 9 and 10 which focuses on mental health and developing the skills to ask for help. We can't wait to start delivering it in schools, along with the rest of our primary and secondary workshops.

As we approach the end of the term, we thought it would be a great idea to share some ideas for brain breaks! Brain breaks are a fantastic way to break up a lesson and reinvigorate students. You can also use these breaks to build relationships with students and forge those ever important connections!

As high school students navigate more rigorous academic tasks and denser curricular material, the occasional 3-to-5-minute break delivers a wide range of benefits.

Over the last two weeks we’ve had the pleasure of delivering our workshops at the Islamic School of Canberra. It was fantastic working with the primary students to create some games and watch them put their creations into action.

We then had the opportunity to talk about digital safety with the secondary students and look at strategies on how to safely navigate the digital world.

A big thank you to the Islamic School of Canberra for having us and a reminder to other teachers out there to get in touch with us if you’d like us to come in and deliver some workshops.

Teachers with Term 1 now coming to a close, it's time to start planning for Term 2! With some of our Term 2 workshop slots already booked, it's important to get in early so that you can align our workshop with your curriculum.

If you're looking to deliver something new to students, make sure you jump on our website and have a look at the workshops we have on offer. A reminder that if you like the look of a workshop but it's not targeted towards your year group, we can modify that workshop to deliver it to your students.

So important to give kids the opportunity to interact with each other away from technology. Along with doing activities in the classroom, it’s important to teach kids how to interact with each other without technology outside the classroom as well.

If you haven’t already have a look at some of our workshops which look to build independence and creativity outside the classroom.

Challenging students to do projects without technology has benefits for creativity, critical thinking, and student engagement.

20 years ago you would have found kids spending lots more time with the two objects on the left of this photo.

Now, however, more and more kids are spending more time on computers, game consoles, and phones, leading to an increase in sedentary behaviour and obesity in children.

Creativity and encouragement is the key to getting kids active again and everyone has a part to play. If you’re wanting to help increase your students activity skill set, get in touch with us and we’ll let you know how we can help.

Have students playing a sport, but haven't considered coaching? Coaching can be a hugely fulfilling hobby and career, with many coaches going on to create lasting memories with the players they interact with.

Students can start coaching while they're still in high school and it's a way they can contribute to their sporting community. Some of our workshops help build coaching capabilities in students and highlight the pros and cons of the coaching pathway.

Erin was an international basketball player who went on to coach college basketball in the US before becoming a strength and movement specialist.

Keeping students active and always on the move is at the core of our philosophy. When you're designing your own lessons, see if you can integrate ways to get students active during the lesson. Doing this in the right way can help them stay focused during the lesson and retain more knowledge.

Despite having a strong sporting culture and history, in the 2022 Australian Physical Activity report card released by the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance, Australia averaged a D- for overall physical activity.
