For midlife women navigating what’s stacking up — career shifts, ageing parents, digital precarity, disruptions to stability — so instead of unravelling, she’s steering through uncertainty.

This question has been stuck in my head for weeks.

At some point, so many women stopped asking what they wanted and started asking what needed doing instead.

The kids need this.

Work needs that.

Your partner needs something.

Your parents need help.

The house needs attention.

And in all of that… you disappear.

I don’t think finding yourself starts with a complete life overhaul. I think it starts with asking yourself one honest question again: What do I want?

Follow FuturePivots if you’re ready to start putting yourself back into your future.

I asked a simple question:

When was the last time you intentionally paused to think about your future?

The response I got over and over again?

“I don’t have time.”

And honestly… I think that’s the biggest signal of all.

We’re the generation raising kids, paying mortgages, caring for ageing parents, working, remembering everyone’s appointments and somehow holding everything together.

Of course we feel like we don’t have time.

But here’s the catch:

If you never make time to think about your future, your future gets shaped by everyone else’s decisions.

Policies.
Technology.
Your employer.
The economy.
Life.

Thinking about your future isn’t selfish. It’s healthy, quicker than you think and saves you time, money and your mental health.

So here’s your 30-minute challenge this weekend:

✨ What’s changing around me?
✨ What feels uncertain?
✨ Where am I vulnerable?
✨ What’s one small move Future Me would thank me for?

You don’t need a five-year plan today.

You just need to lift your head above the chaos long enough to see where you’re heading.

Because that’s where clarity starts.

I don’t think age is the thing women fear most.

I think it’s looking back one day and realising we spent years surviving instead of choosing.

Choosing ourselves.

Choosing a different career.

Choosing a different pace.

Choosing a different future.

Midlife isn’t the end of the story. It’s often the first time we have enough perspective to write the next chapter differently.

If that resonates, you’re exactly who I created FuturePivots for.

Follow for honest conversations about what’s next for women in midlife.

I actually think we’ve labelled too many women as “having a midlife crisis.”

Sometimes it’s something much simpler.

You wake up and realise the future you’ve been chasing doesn’t fit the person you’ve become.

That’s not a crisis.

That’s awareness.

And awareness is where really good decisions start.

If you’ve been feeling this but couldn’t quite explain it, you’re not the only one.

Follow FuturePivots for more conversations about navigating midlife with clarity, strategy and options.

This one feels uncomfortable because so many of us don’t even have words for it.

Millennial women were told that if we worked hard, made good decisions and kept pushing forward, we’d eventually arrive somewhere that felt secure.

For a lot of us… that “eventually” never came.

The goalposts kept moving.

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

But it does mean it’s time to ask a different question: What does my future look like now?

That’s what FuturePivots is all about.

Follow along if you’re trying to make sense of what’s next.

I don’t think anyone warns women about this moment.

The moment you realise you’ve spent years building a life… and then one day you wake up and think, is this actually the life I want for the next 20 years?

It’s not about being ungrateful.

It’s not about blowing everything up.

It’s about recognising that you’ve changed. And the world has changed with you.

I think a lot of women are standing in that space right now — successful on paper, holding everything together, but quietly wondering what’s next.

That’s the conversation we’re having at FuturePivots.

Follow if you’re ready to design your next chapter instead of drifting into it.

I walked into the Australian launch of the Gender Index expecting a conversation about women in business.

I walked out thinking about strategy.

The headline everyone is sharing is that women-led businesses could add $100 billion to the Australian economy if they scaled at the same rate as men’s.

That’s not the part that stayed with me. What stayed with me was listening to a room of women say things like:

“I don’t know what I don’t know.”

“I’m trying to grow a business while raising kids and caring for parents.”

“Maybe we’re just too risk averse.”

I think we’re making decisions with more variables, more responsibilities and more consequences in the equation.

This a strategy problem, not a confidence problem. I don’t think women need another lecture about being bolder.

It’s also why I built my business on the See It. Shape It. Own It method.

See It: understand what’s changing around you before it becomes a crisis.

Shape It: design a business that fits the life you’re actually living, not the one hustle culture promised.

Own It: make decisions with options, backups and agency.

The future rewards the founder who can see change early and adapt before everyone else. I left feeling so I inspired and full of energy thanks for all the amazing female founders and business leaders.

I was talking to mum the other and when we were talking about something in the future she said something that then had me thinking about all the sayings we grew up with.

Cross that bridge when you get to it.
Go with the flow.
Take things as they come.
You get what you get and you don’t get upset.

Some of them are useful And none of them sound harmful on their own.

But together? They taught a lot of women to become the shock absorbers. To absorb uncertainty, everyone else’s needs and to absorb the change, the disruption, the mental load and just... keep going.

At what cost?

All the conversations, working groups and surveys have lead me to think we’re seeing the cost in midlife right now.

The women who have spent decades being adaptable, capable and dependable are exhausted. And I want to be clear that these women are not weak. Quite the opposite. They’ve been buffering everyone else’s world while leaving no buffer for their own.

This is a big reason FuturePivots exists. I don’t want women to become better at COPING with uncertainty.

I want us to become better at designing for it. Creating options early, building backups, thinking ahead and the making decisions before we’re forced into them.

What if we instead didn’t consider resilience as “I’ll deal with it when it happens” but rather resilience is making sure everything doesn’t depend on you when it does.

The cost difference - your mental health, sanity and time being saved!

So many millennial women think burnout means they need a new job.
Sometimes they do.
But after 15 years looking at systems, I’ve noticed something else: we keep trying to fix one part of our life while ignoring the system it’s connected to.
Midlife isn’t just about work. It’s careers, ageing parents, kids, health, money, identity, technology, housing and a world that’s changing faster than most of us were prepared for.
That’s why I think of myself as a midlife doula. Someone who helps women design this next chapter instead of stumbling into it.
Not by predicting what’s coming.
By helping you build options, pivots and a strategy for whatever comes next.
Because owning your future starts with seeing the whole picture.

Wise words from Dolly Parton and the essence of what I coach women - you can design the future you want by understanding what’s going to change in the future, shaping and building a strategy that gives you options (not someone else’s options) and own it like a boss lady to make decisions for you. If you want to own your future instead of reacting and letting it happen to you, you’re in the right place.
