In a perfect world, SP Specialist Inclusion Services would not exist.

In a perfect world, neurodiversity would be understood, accepted and embraced. Our services would not be needed to educate, guide, advocate and empower the young people and their families that we work with.

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t be part of the journey that our families face; it is challenging, yet uplifting, emotional yet rewarding, overwhelming yet inspiring. It’s hard work but a privilege.

Whilst the world is not perfect for the beautiful families we work with, they certainly make ours pretty perfect with their kind words.

Earlier this year we contributed to the podcast series, Disability Conversations.

We shared our experiences relating to supporting families and working with schools around imputed disability.

Disability conversations: Imputed disability - Parent perspectives - Nationally Consistent Collection of Data In this episode, we turn our attention to the knowledge and insights of parents when it comes to imputed disability. This is when a school determines that a student with additional learning needs has an undiagnosed disability that has a functional impact on their schooling.

March 21 (3/21) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Happy World Down Syndrome Day, to all of the beautiful families that we have been so fortunate to work alongside on their journey!

School has only just returned, but remember to talk to your school about any adjustments your child may need for NAPLAN. A timeline of applications is below, but check with your school with what they can do for your child.

As 2021 draws to a close lets hope (and work towards) more inclusive behaviour, teaching, friendships and acceptance in 2022.
