Personal training for adults 40 and over. Based in Camira, serving Springfield and Ipswich. Strength, mobility and real fitness for the life you want to live

20/08/2026

Most people around Ipswich managing their blood pressure get told to walk more. Good advice. It's just not the whole toolbox.

Regular strength training is linked to meaningful drops in resting blood pressure. The key is how it's done: smooth reps, steady breathing, sensible loads.

Your GP is the person for your numbers. The training part, I can help with.

The morning-after ache stops more over 40s in Springfield and Camira from getting consistent than any injury does. Not because it's dangerous, but because nobody taught them to read it.

So here's the guide I give my own clients.

Normal soreness lives in the muscle, shows up evenly on both sides a day later, and eases as you move. It's your body adapting.

Pain is different. Sharp, in a joint, one side only, or changing how you move. That's inflammation , and the right answer is back off and get it looked at, not push through.

Swipe through for the full checklist and save it. You'll want it after your next big session.

What's the sorest you've ever been after exercise? Stories welcome below. πŸ‘‡

Every business book says grow. Add trainers, add timeslots, add a second location.

After 30 years as a personal trainer in Camira, my answer keeps coming back no.

What makes this work is that I know every person who walks through that door. Whose knee is grumbling this week. Who's got a rough month at work. Who needs pushing today and who needs the opposite. You can't scale that. The moment I'm managing trainers instead of training people, the thing I'm actually selling is gone.

So The DKWay stays small on purpose. The honest trade-off is that spots open when they open.

What do you look for in a trainer? Genuinely curious. πŸ‘‡

If you'd like a spot, send us a message and I'll add you to the waitlist. You'll be first to hear.

Almost every new client says the same thing on the way in for the first time.

"I'm probably the most unfit person you've seen."

They're never right. But I understand why they say it. Walking into any training environment for the first time after years off, or after an injury, or just after a long stretch of life getting in the way, takes more courage than people give themselves credit for.

What they tell me afterwards is almost always the same too. "That was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be." And then they book the next one.

That gap between what people imagine and what it actually is, that's the whole reason the first session here is just a conversation. No pressure, no performance, no proving anything to anyone.

If you've been putting it off because of what you imagine it will be like, come and find out what it's actually like instead.

What's the story you've been telling yourself about getting started?

Tell me below, I've heard them all. πŸ‘‡

If your back's had it after years on the tools or at the desk, and your plan is 'do more sit-ups', I want to save you some frustration.

Your core's actual job, in real life around Ipswich and Camira, is bracing. It keeps your spine steady while you lift the esky, carry the shopping, push the mower. That's the job worth training.

The most useful core exercise I know is embarrassingly simple: pick up something heavy and walk with it. Add well-coached lifting and a sensible plank and you've got a back program that shows up when you need it.

Swipe through for the short version, and save it for the morning your back complains.

One note: sharp or persistent pain deserves a professional's eyes first. This is for the stiff and cranky, not the injured.

What sets your back off most, sitting or lifting? Tell me below. πŸ‘‡

Every September the messages start. The weather warms up and everyone in Springfield and Ipswich wants to restart their fitness at once.

Here's a quieter suggestion. Start now.

Four weeks is enough to get the awkward part out of the way. The first sessions, the early soreness, the finding-your-feet stage. Start in August and by spring you're not beginning, you're building. And you've beaten the September rush for timeslots.

Nobody regrets being four weeks ahead of themselves.

Honest question: are you a 'start when the weather improves' person? No shame, most of us are. πŸ‘‡

If you'd rather the head start, send us a message this week and we'll find you a time.

Heavy legs by mid-afternoon is one of the most common things I hear about in over 40 fitness around Ipswich.

Your calves are the pump that returns blood up from your legs. Sit all day and the pump barely runs.

Walking, stairs and calf raises off a step. Small stuff, big difference.

Did you already know this one? Tell me below. πŸ‘‡

Send us a message if tired legs are part of your day.

'My metabolism is shot.' If you're over 40 in Springfield or Ipswich, you've probably said it or heard it this month.

Here's the thing. Large studies tracking thousands of people found metabolism holds fairly steady from our 20s until around 60. The dramatic slowdown everyone blames mostly isn't there.

What actually changes is the engine. We lose muscle from our 40s unless we train it, and muscle is what burns fuel even at rest. Add careers and cars replacing the incidental movement we used to do, and there's your answer.

You can't fix a myth. You can absolutely rebuild muscle. I watch clients here in Camira do it every year.

Swipe through for the full picture. Whose metabolism gets blamed at your place? Tell me below. πŸ‘‡

Save this for the next time it comes up.

The biggest reason people put off hiring a personal trainer in Camira isn't motivation. It's the price tag.

Fair enough. One-on-one coaching is an investment.

Here's the option most people don't know exists. My small group sessions are capped at 3 to 4 people. Same programming, same eyes on your technique every set, and I still know your history and your goals. The cost is simply shared.

It's not a class. Nobody's up the back copying along.

Who would you split a session with? Tell me below. πŸ‘‡

Did you know your skeleton is quietly rebuilding itself all the time?

Bone isn't the fixed, dry thing people imagine. It's living tissue, and it follows a simple rule: it gets stronger where it's loaded and weaker where it's not.

That's why strength training matters so much as we age, and especially for women after menopause, when bone density can drop quickly. Walking is great, but bones need meaningful load to respond. Carrying, lifting, pushing and pulling against real resistance.

And the best part, your bones respond at any age. It is never too late to give them a reason to stay strong.
