On a recent visit to the school, students were given missions (find a mini-flower, sing like a magpie, eat an edible w**d), had I known that the larvae of these ghost moths were in the school grounds I would have given triple points to any child courageous enough to eat one of these; the traditional bush food known as Bardee Grubs.

Growing on the edges of the school ground, near the fence, is a plant from an ancient lineage that are thought to be the first land plants. 470 million years ago in a time when there were mountains with snow at Alice Springs & trilobites ruled the Oceans of the world.
They are a perfect educational resource, they even look like sea algae.

I have just visited my first Victorian Schools. Campbell's Creek Primary School & Epsom Primary School. We found lots of wildlife, I was more excited than the students because we found a lots of things I have never seen before. ALSO, both schools are now leading the April International School BioQuest Competition. https://www.guardiansofearth.io/bioquest/2026/april

At the Mackay Christian College OSHCare there was a girl who mimicked the call of a Blue-faced Honeyeater so perfectly that the bird called back to her.
It was one of those magical moments where you could feel the connection. The connection that Wildcrafting for Kids strives for; a magical memory that this girl can relive every time she sees (or speaks to) this bird.

I am now placing all of the species that I make into cards on this blog.

The blog will give more details about the species but what I like most is that each species has ideas on how to make a Connection: songs, puzzles, art, quizzes & lessons.

The aim is to make a strong enough connection with a species that each time you see it you can relive the experience you shared with the species.

Mini-Worlds; where the grass becomes trees, the shell becomes a power generator and the Callistemon flower is a flame-throwing cannon (the red bits are the fire).
Nature & Imagination.

Visited Bowen kindy. We found all sorts of life, including a Dragon. All children should go to schools that have dragons in them.
