The tip I like the most is.... being aware of what practice looks like - it's certainly not a performance! And it's easy for students to get caught in making it a performance.

Are there any other simple tips you can add in here?

Our philosophy theme this week is Kindness. Sharing a couple of quotes once again. A little late this week! haha, I am being kind to myself about this!

Students have been recieving these weekly quotes at the top of their lesson notes which they access online, so they have a little reminder at home.

A few quotes to share as we head into the week, on flexibility. Definitely an important part of the balance, with goals and learning.

This week I'm putting my head down to learn some piano accompaniments super quickly for a violinist - part of the flexibility is in recognising I will not be able to learn it all at full speed in a week, and simplifying some parts. But I would much rather do this, and enjoy the process, than not do it at all!

Some snippets of the main theme from a movie that a student has requested to learn.... if you're a movie buff you'll definitely know it! Fantastic piece, amazing composer! (Hans Zimmer) Followed by some improv based off the tune!

This week's theme is Belief!!! I am posting just a little ahead of Monday! Maybe it's because I love this theme!

I love putting the scaffolding in to help students believe in themselves.

As a teacher, it's important for me to believe in myself and what I do! Ahhh so many great things to learn about belief!

How can we help our little musicians believe in themselves? What do you do? I love to use very specific praise, to remind students of what they can do. Any other suggestions?

A glimpse inside Imagine Piano studio! Whether it's online or in person, lessons at Imagine Piano just look different!

I love how this approach teaches pitch movement before the student has even learnt staff names... how much further ahead will they be when they get to reading on the staff!

Lessons resumed today at Imagine Piano! So a wonderful theme to kick the year off is purpose! So great to see all my students again this week after the summer break. Imagine Piano families - a great time to chat to your kids about their piano goals too! Let me know how you go!

How involved should you be in your child's music practice? – Colourful Keys 12/01/2024

As we start the new year (Imagine Piano Studio starts back next week!) it's a perfect time to start over with developing a good practice routine.

A fantastic read here by piano educator Nicola Canton - it's a 5 minute read with some really valuable and simple ways to implement practice at home. Remember I said simple - not easy! But in our studio, I'm always looking for ways to support parents and students to develop good practice habits, so keep the comms open! 😊

After a long break I am happy to be bringing this page back into action!

A little about me, my name is Katrina, or Kat for short, if you like. :) I am the owner and founder of Imagine Piano, an online and in person piano studio based in Far North Queensland, Australia. I have a mix of students who attend locally for lessons, and non-local students who log in online for lessons.

One thing I love about teaching is the look of wonder, excitement, joy, or pure immersion in music that students experience, whether they are just starting out, or are intermediate or advanced students. I love to teach students at all ages and stages.

I am looking forward to sharing with you a little glimpse into my studio each week, whether it's a piece I am sharing, or something special from a student, and a philosophy/approach towards learning and playing the piano. I look forward to sharing some accessible tips to apply to your playing along the way.

With joy, and music!

Kat 😊

School is back! Piano is back! The summer has sped by, but not without plenty of musical happenings!
Looking forward to getting back into lessons this week (face to face lessons) and next week (online lessons). New year, new music, fresh learning!
What's been happening in your world? I am guessing I might hear a few summer stories this week during lessons! 🥰🎶
