🏅 Celebrating a Kindy Legacy 🏅

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news from our Yorkeys K**b Community Kindergarten family.

Our former Director, Wendy Lion, has been awarded an honorary Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours for her outstanding service to early childhood education.

Wendy established Yorkeys K**b Community Kindy and helped the centre achieve the high standards required for C&K affiliation, bringing additional funding, resources, and support to the kindy. Over nearly 20 years as Director, she helped shape the early learning journeys of hundreds of local children.

One of those children was our current Committee President, Jess, who attended Yorkeys K**b Kindy under Wendy's care.

Jess shared:

"She was always so warm and kind, and it was a really beautiful kindy with such an outdoor focus. It was a really lovely place to start my educational journey.

It's still very similar to my memories. We've still got this beautiful big tree with a bench around it and such a focus on outdoor learning like we did when I attended.

Kindy is so important and really sets the tone for children's entry to education. This centre still has such a community feel and is really focused on families, and that's a reflection of Wendy."

As we celebrate this well-deserved recognition, we're reminded of the power of early childhood educators to shape not just individual children, but entire communities across generations.

Congratulations, Wendy! Thank you for the legacy you have created. 🌳✨

If you have anything you’d like to donate to the Yorkeys K**b Community Kindy raffle — or have promised vouchers or prizes — could we please collect them by this Friday.

🙏 A huge thank you to all the local businesses and community members who have already donated. Your generosity and support mean so much to our kindy community, and we’re incredibly grateful! 🙏

Once all prizes have been confirmed and collected, we’ll begin selling raffle tickets 🎟️ and we can’t wait to see everyone at our stall at the Festival of the K**b 🎪
