"Why are you taking honey from the bees?" 🐝
It's a question we hear a lot—and it's a good one!
In this video, Cedar shows how you can partially harvest a Flow Frame, leaving plenty of honey behind for the bees. Removing excess honey can also help prevent overcrowding and reduce the risk of swarming.
It's all about harvesting mindfully and supporting a healthy hive.

It’s the perfect time to get started!
Spring is the best time to start beekeeping 🌱🌻🐝 But sometimes it can be hard to take that first step. If you’ve been wanting to begin but feel a bit nervous, you’re not alone!

Ever wondered how nectar turns into honey? 🐝💛
It starts with bees sharing nectar mouth-to-mouth, adding enzymes to transform it into thick, golden goodness. These tiny workers pollinate over 75% of the world’s plants and 35% of our crops, making them vital to our ecosystems and food security.
Flow Hive’s Book of Bees & Beekeeping is a detailed yet accessible beekeeping manual, suitable for beginners and experienced beeks alike.
It also tells Cedar and Stu’s story 🐝 how a father-and-son duo went from a simple idea to a working invention. Changing beekeeping forever.
You can catch Cedar and Stu at the Byron Writer's Festival this weekend! 📖

It's time to check your hive
It’s easy to confuse swarming with orientation flights!
✨ Swarming = colony splits, queen leaves, half the hive follows to start fresh.
✨ Orientation flights = young bees (or a moved hive) do practice flights to learn where home is.
Watch closely—you’ll learn a lot just by observing! 👀💛
