Today is a big day, y'all.
The app I have been working on for about ten years is finally here, live, launched, and ready to be seen by the world... today.
Like the book, this was 100% born out of my own struggles with audition prep.
When I was in school, and even when I started my first playing job, it was a real struggle for me to figure out what to focus on each day... especially when a lot of things were coming up.
So many pieces, so little chops.
I knew there had to be a smarter way to figure it out but that smarter way was not gonna be calculated by my own brain every morning. So, as a nerd does, I made a spreadsheet:
The spreadsheet took my assessments and lengths of my upcoming rep and gave each piece a score.
Promising, but I knew it wasn't enough.
What if Mahler is next week but Brahms is in 6 months? What about the pieces I haven't touched in weeks? How do I factor in the endurance demands? What could it really tell me about my technique and what's holding me back?
There was so much more I knew it could do.
The whole idea sat for a while. A couple years ago, I tried to build a smarter version in Airtable.
It was not smarter.
So finally, about a year ago, I bit the bullet of time and money, and started building the tool I always wanted to build.
After three rounds of beta testing with the most wonderful people, and countless changes and ideas, Practice Room Playbook is officially launched!
It does all the stuff I wanted ten years ago and sooooo much more. But the basic problem it solves is still the same:
I have all this music to practice. What should I work on TODAY?
The biggest thing I wanted it to solve was making you feel more balanced in your preparation, and that was a sentiment many testers validated.
So, that's that.
Please check it out. And please share with anyone who might find it useful.
There is a free 21-day trial of the Pro version for all accounts, there is a steep student discount ($4/month), and I made sure the free version is still quite useful, especially for younger students.
I wish I could keep it all free, but it is a costly endeavor, turns out!
One more thing...
The first 100 people who upgrade to Pro using code FOUNDER100 will lock in $60/year for as long as they stay subscribed.
(Not you, students, see earlier).
