Milkwood Steiner School exists as a space to grow and nurture a community on Larrakia land with intention, where children are received with reverence, guided by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner Education, adapted to this Time and Place.

Steiner Early Childhood Education recognises that children are learning all the time. Children under the age of seven are expert imitators, so the most important role of the Kindergarten physical and social environment is to model a healthy, kind and holistic model of living, being and relating, that is worthy of replication. The Kindergarten is a home-like environment, where children engage deeply in the rich domestic tasks of growing food, cooking, craft, time in nature, rest and play.

High School Expo featured information booths and activities run by Milkwood's faculty, plus Tournament of Minds, Darwin Languages Centre, NT School of Distance Education, Charles Darwin University, VET, Duke of Ed, Darwin Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Program, Australian Youth Orchestra, South Passage Voyage and more - some of the amazing opportunities available to Milkwood High School students in 2027. High School Orientation Day has started with a Welcome Address and High School Assembly, launching Milkwood's 2027 High School Handbook. Students heard about new opportunities to get ahead in credit points for their future ATAR, New Scholarship opportunities (1 week left to apply) and other things to look forward to in Milkwood High School life next year.

As the dust settles on our school field and gardens after such a wonderful Bush Dance night last Saturday, we extend our deepest gratitude to all involved in Milkwood’s beautiful community event. Thankyou Four Bars In, Milkwood Ensembles and High School band The Rude Mechanicals!
Thankyou parents for responding to the callouts for roster help, baking and cooking, for offering just that bit more, your support is so valued by Milkwood’s children! And thankyou to all of our guests for coming, dancing and enjoying the night!

Milkwood Steiner School's High School program offers a student-focused alternative to High School education in the Top End, applying the richness of a Steiner Curriculum to the unique cultural and environmental context of Larrakia Country. Small class sizes and strong teacher-student relationships. Academic specialisation and support with a faculty of specialist teachers. Extension opportunities in language, music, VET, electives and Year 11 SACE subjects and understanding university and career pathways for Steiner graduates. A strong Outdoor Classroom program with multiple camps, excursions, hands on learning, careers counselling and more.

𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙠𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙'𝙨 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡
Milkwood's Class 6/7 Main Lesson has followed on from our study of Geology, and now into the world of Fieldwork. This has provided students with the opportunity to understand and apply practical geographical skills while investigating the environment around them.
Students were given a research question and began exploring different ways of collecting and interpreting data, from examining rainfall, temperature and tidal data to developing their own survey questions and gathering responses from the wider community.
Students ventured into the field to investigate erosion along Darwin’s coastline. At Nightcliff Foreshore, they observed the landscape and recorded evidence of erosion through detailed field sketches. At Mindil Beach, students used quadrats they had designed and created themselves in class to collect further observations and evidence of the effects of erosion. Great discussions were had and students were able to see first-hand the measures that have been put in place to combat erosion.
Next week, students will bring together their fieldwork observations, survey responses, and collected data to write a geographical report, drawing conclusions from their findings and developing recommendations based on the evidence they have collected.
