ACCESSING HIGHER EDUCATION MADE EASIER FOR VETERANS
The Albanese Labor Government is making it easier for veterans to pursue higher education through the Veteran Recognition of Prior Learning – Tertiary Support Grant Program.

Veterans gain valuable skills and experience during their service in the Australian Defence Force however, these are not always readily recognised by education providers.

Through the Recognising Prior Learning Grant Program, universities can develop initiatives to better recognise these skills, adapt tertiary credit-mapping frameworks, and create entry pathways for veterans.

In this second round of the RPL Grant Program, six universities across the country will share in $700,000 funding, supporting veterans in metropolitan and regional areas.

Part of the Government’s $24 million Veteran Employment Program, the RPL Grant Program is providing a total of $1.65 million, over three grant rounds.
Applications for the third round of the RPL Grant Program will open in 2025.

My name is Emilia Janca, I am a researcher at the University of Queensland and Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research, based in Meanjin/Brisbane. I am working on a Department of Veterans’ Affairs-commissioned project titled “Understanding and improving responses to suicidality for Department of Veterans’ Affairs clients in Queensland: a data linkage study”.

I contacted you a few months ago regarding our recruitment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience and/or carer representatives to join the project’s Lived Experience Expert Group, to provide input and share their expertise. We are seeking to recruit representatives with a lived experience of both suicidality and serving in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), and/or a lived experience of caring for someone with experience of both suicidality and serving in the ADF. Many thanks if you assisted us with disseminating our EOI through your networks previously.

I just wanted to let you know that have removed the application end date, and are accepting applications on an ongoing basis. Applicants do not need to be based in Brisbane to apply.

I have attached the Expression of Interest document that we have prepared that contains further detail about the project, the level of participation and remuneration, and representatives’ essential and desired attributes.
