Our Dowerin Field Day tour started with a morning visiting Anthony and Geraldine Thomas from Three Springs.
The shovel easily slid into the soil. They have been using NutriSoil and reducing chemicals for over 9 years in pastures and crops.
Top depth has doubled since we were last here 6 years ago.
Dung bettles were abundant and active in pastures, creating aeration and improving water infiltration with deep burrows.
A new way of cropping, broadcast spreading higher seed rates coated with NutriSoil, 50kg of starter fert and Kelly chained. Clean dense crops.
The versatile Kelly chain has allowed Anthony and Geraldine to reduce their chemical use.
Anthony terms these pastures as biologically ripped, the result of a liming and NutriSoil program, eliminating compaction. Their sheep are highly sought after due to a good breeding program and nutrient dense pastures. No drenching, pesticides or fungicides.
