Important for people to understand the changes being made and the difficulties it puts on rural & regional PPMs.

Putting feelers out for a Meet & Greet & Q&A with a midwife. If this is of interest to you comment KEEN below and I will organise a date/time. You can be pregnant, trying to conceive or just curious about private midwifery.

Some contractions start with “period type” pain, and some are full on from the get go. This is why it is hard to determine what is labour. And the fact some mistake contractions for Brixton hicks!!! How did your early contractions feel like???

Did you know only roughly 5% of women give birth on their due date. Who knows what the average gestation would be if the induction rates were not so high! Let me know below what gestation you were when you gave birth. I’ll go first ….. 41 weeks

For those that don’t know, I am a single mother by choice (SMBC), and went to see in Brighton & went through Monash IVF for a s***m donor (more variety & personal preference). I feel truely blessed for the fact that all went very straight forward with the IVF and fell pregnant with a fresh transfer on the first cycle!
I knew when I fell pregnant I wanted continuity of midwifery care, and sourced a midwife who was willing to travel to me. There is no MGP or private midwives (apart from me) in my town so the general choice is public or private. I also knew I don’t want to birth at hospital so a homebirth was my plan. I understood that as a first time labourer, that I may need assistance but had faith in my body & baby that all would be fine. I also had the bonus of knowing any of the local Obstetricians who offered their services should I need them.
My pregnancy was surreal and didn’t even feel pregnant until the 3rd trimester. The odd random vomit here and there & a bit of heartburn but that was about it. I had an anterior placenta so hardly felt movements which was disappointing as you hear stories of how it feels but I didn’t have that.

I had to laugh thinking “what if” I was under OB care as I had a number of “risk factors” ticked off:
IVF ✅
Post dates ✅
Advanced maternal age ✅
High BMI ✅
Mec liquor ✅. So at 41 weeks I had the gorgeous coming to do some accuneedling & internal pelvic release to try & help move things along, when an hour before our appointment out of nowhere my waters broke. Of course being post dates the baby had done a poo so the fluid was dark green. So sent a photo (yep midwives get gorry photos of random pads or un**es) and told her nothing was happening but I would keep her posted. So Lauretta came & did some accuneedling and it was so lovely to just rest & relax. Continue in comments.
