Discovering how to cook outside of the top 5 meals within my comfort zone is sure to be one that pushes my boundaries, burns many pans and tests my will to succeed. It's a journey that this 39 year old mother, living in a rural victorian town far from the security of the Melbourne 24 hour takeaway restaurants and mini marts is willing to take, to finally be comfortable in the kitchen.

I loved watching Iron Chef in my younger days, seeing the absolute magical transformation of assorted fruits, spices, vegetables and meats into some of the most exquisite meals and dreaming of the smell and tastes as the judges gave their interpretation of success and failure.

Has Netflix given us the iron chef evolution with the final table?

MEAL PREP! How good is coming home to minimal cooking after a long day! 🙂
Love having the fridge and freezer organised and full of prepared meals or sides for a time saving snack or lunch, and these 12 tiny pizzas were a tasty , cost effective way to make use of the mini tortillas purchased in error AND provide some cheese pizzas as a base for additions when cooking, and some pepperoni and cheese snacks for the bairn while I am insanely busy with placement.
Plus, perfect size for the air fryer 👌🏻. I Could never have imagined that with only Sunday off this week, and after an already huge week , that I would be planning what I will fill the freezer with this Sunday when the weekly cooking and watching Netflix or listening to music unfolds.

Tomorrow my bairn turns 19 and besides chips and parmas he loves burgers. So this year made him a burger cake. I wrapped it in grease proof paper with “ order notes” as if he had ordered from Uber eats.
While not a full sized cake, it’s a whopping 10cm tall and 10cm round and will likely keep him busy all day and night.

Happy Birthday my bubba boy. Love you beyond explanation.

Bloody cream buns, bloody buggery flipping brain that can’t remember TO BUY FLOUR AT THE GROCERS YESTERDAY !

All I needed was flour so I could make some late night treats to have for Sunday morning tea and treats as I work on my very last assignment for University this semester. It is the only missing ingredient 🤬

Looks like tomorrow we are off to the grocer for one blooming box of buggery flour 😖

Might be a sign I need to make a list beforehand 🤦🏻‍♀️

When the priority ( besides your job) is to get as much uni work done ( essays are complete oxygen thieves ) and maintain SOME level of quality sleep, it leaves dinner prep either late, something super quick or going through the takeaway menus.
9pm yesterday evening, as a break from my essay writing and research, and as a way to stay awake, I cooked food. A super late dinner to be precise.

Chicken breast with creamy Lemmon garlic and white wine sauce , onion and butter of corse , winter veg and the most mouth watering flavour filled mash I’ve ever made. Mash taters, cream, grated mozzarella , garlic, S&P and to top it off, cracked pepper .. because why the fluffing heck not !

Meals like this don’t look fancy or win awards in my book( I have neither a book nor prior awards) but it fuelled my body and brain and was absolutely delish AND gave me some boost to keep going a few more hours.

So, unpin reflecting the tastes and time taken to prepare and cook this meal, I decided it will be the new winter delish dish in our home.
Simple. Quick and super easy - and that’s saying something for me. 😀

Why on earth am I attracted to mechanically minded men when I should be looking for a baker!
This better be some half decent bread ... taking this off my list of things I loved to make ( although years gone by I had a bread maker ) hours of prep and the reward is delish BUT I also have to work harder to shed those bread kilos from my body ?!
Hardly seems fair.

Australia Day 2021 is nothing like I could have ever imagined.
A long loved cheese brand being renamed to align with the removal of cultural vocabulary that has existed for decades that is not supported , encouraged or accepted but was named after the family who produced it. We are moving forward and while something might not make sense to everyone , I feel it is a change that is needed for the greater good. Just as much as vaccination, education and access to health care are. Even the playing field a little more for the future and accept past errors that we can not change easily.

Today is my mother’s birthday and I celebrate by cooking her a lunch that she can’t eat, 1250 km is too far to send this meal by post but we will enjoy it here and miss her greatly.

Donna bloody Hay... I possibly chose the easiest little tid bit to cook from her book called THE NEW EASY and , well I failed in various ways.
The birds will have full little bellies tomorrow at this rate.
