This week at The Family Tree Ardross, we proudly went orange in celebration of Harmony Week 🧡

Across our nursery, toddler and kindy rooms, the children engaged in a variety of meaningful experiences that celebrated diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging. From creative art and group discussions to shared cultural activities, each age group explored what makes them unique while learning to appreciate and respect the differences in others.

These experiences help to build children’s understanding that everyone belongs, encouraging kindness, empathy and acceptance within our learning community. It was a beautiful week of connection, where individuality was embraced and friendships were strengthened.

Today in our Mandarin lesson, the children had lots of fun pretending they were at a restaurant! They practiced using their Mandarin words to “order food” to help feed the hungry bunny. Through imaginative play, the children built confidence using new language, developed communication skills, and worked together to solve the bunny’s problem. Experiences like this support children’s language development, social skills, and creativity, linking to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators and the National Quality Standard (NQS) 1.2.1: Intentional teaching. 🐰🥟

Using cars and paint to trace lines is a fun sensory activity that helps toddlers develop early fine motor and pre-writing skills, hand–eye coordination, and creativity. As children explore movement and direction through play, they build confidence and concentration. These experiences support the Early Years Learning Framework, particularly Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners and Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators, as they experiment, explore, and express themselves through creative play. 🚗🎨

Did you know we offer TWO complimentary Mandarin lessons a week at the Family Tree Ardross from our friends at Mandarin Stars !

Learning Mandarin supports children’s confidence, thinking skills, and communication while linking beautifully to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). As children explore new words, songs and cultural experiences, they build a strong sense of identity (Outcome 1), develop respect for diversity and connection to the world around them (Outcome 2), strengthen memory and problem-solving skills (Outcome 4), and expand their language and listening abilities (Outcome 5). Introducing Mandarin in a playful, engaging way helps children become confident, capable and curious learners.

Our Recycled Garden is underway 🌱♻️

The children have begun planting seeds in recycled milk cartons, learning how we can reuse materials to care for our environment. Through this hands-on experience, they are developing responsibility, patience and an understanding of how plants grow.

This links to EYLF Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world and Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners, as well as NQS Quality Area 3 – Physical Environment, supporting sustainable practices within our service.

Learning to ride a bike is about more than just fun—it helps children build confidence, coordination, balance, and strong muscles. Through our Wheelie Wednesday program, we support children as they learn to ride and develop these important skills.

Bike riding encourages gross motor development, teaches children to take safe risks, and builds resilience as they practise and improve. It also promotes independence and a strong sense of achievement when they reach new milestones.

These experiences support children’s wellbeing, confidence, and active lifestyles, linking to the Early Years Learning Framework Outcomes 1 and 3, as children develop a strong sense of identity and take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing.

Today the children enjoyed celebrating Pancake Tuesday by making their own delicious banana pancakes. They were involved in every step of the process—mashing the bananas, mixing the ingredients, and watching the pancakes cook. This hands-on cooking experience supported the children’s independence, confidence, and fine motor skills while encouraging conversations about healthy foods and following simple instructions. Experiences like this link to the EYLF Learning Outcomes 1, 3, and 4, as children develop a strong sense of identity, learn about wellbeing through healthy eating, and build confidence as involved and capable learners.

Our children were excited to receive their very own library bags from our local library, along with books to take home and share with their families. This special experience encourages a love of reading, builds early language and literacy skills, and supports meaningful family connections through storytelling.

This initiative links to the EYLF Outcomes 2 and 5, as children develop a sense of belonging within their community and become confident, involved learners and communicators. It also aligns with the NQS Quality Areas 1 and 6, supporting educational programs and strong partnerships with families and the community.

Our Kindy children have been busy practising their tracing and cutting skills as they explored different shapes. These experiences help build fine motor strength, hand–eye coordination, and confidence with using scissors, all of which are important for early writing and everyday tasks. Through this activity, children are developing concentration, persistence, and creativity while preparing for school readiness, linking to the EYLF through Outcome 3 (sense of wellbeing) and Outcome 4 (confident and involved learners), and aligning with the NQS through Quality Area 1 (educational program and practice) and Quality Area 3 (physical environment).
