Chasing Dreams with the Support to Believe 🐴
When Bronte joined the Just Equus Youth Leadership Program, she expected to learn more about horses.
What she didn’t expect was everything else that would come with it.
Over the months, Bronte has developed her horsemanship, learned practical life skills, shared campfires, cooked meals together (including becoming a fan of Eva’s famous potato bake!), and discovered that camping in the middle of winter in a horse float can create some of the best memories 🤣🐴🌦️.
But the greatest lessons haven’t come from the campfire or even from the saddle.
They’ve come from the conversations, the quiet conversation in between clinics.
Peter Biggs has shared countless pieces of wisdom with Bronte, from the simple things like tying a halter correctly, to reminding her to slow down, breathe and relax with her horse. Sometimes, the smallest pieces of advice become the ones we carry for life.
One lesson, however, has stayed with her above all the others.
While teaching her how to use a lasso, Peter said:
“Don’t let anyone tell you you’re doing it wrong.”
For Bronte, those words reached far beyond learning to rope.
She has a dream of one day working on a cattle station. While that dream often surprises people, she has never questioned whether it was possible because, from the very beginning, Peter and Eva have encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
At Just Equus, young people aren’t told what they should become. They’re encouraged to discover who they are and given the confidence to chase the life they dream of, whatever they desire to chase.
Bronte says she has never once felt unwelcome. From Peter and Eva opening their home, to Wade always being ready to lend a helping hand, she found something many young people are searching for, a place where they belong.
Along the way she has also formed lifelong friendships with others who share the same passion for horses, creating a community that supports one another both in and out of the arena.
Reflecting on her journey, Bronte says everything she has learned at Just Equus has brought her one step closer to her goals.
And she’s excited to keep stepping forward. Leadership isn’t just about becoming a better horse person. It’s about becoming a more confident, capable and resilient young person who believes their dreams are worth chasing.
We couldn’t be prouder of you, Bronte, and we’re honoured to be part of your journey ❤️🐴.
Bronte also make the best brownies, everyone raves about it. We just need to hide it from Wade before the horse clinic 🤣.
