Today, in one of my fave business groups, there was a question about what to do when a business counterpart (same client, different service) bags you out to a homeowner and says your products are inferior. Said person has a business referral partner who does what you do.

This was my response...

Yep it sucks, it hurts, it's unprofessional. And saying anything would lower you to their level. Instead, rise up.

Shore up your socials. Make sure your website clearly shows your company vision, mission and especially values.

Directly address your guarantee and quality. This supports and uplevels the 'game'.

Eg. We proudly guarantee our work with a x warranty. Amazing right?

We use only the best materials, specifically sourced because the products we use, last. True, there are cheaper options out there, however our warranty reflects the confidence we have in our product, workmanship and longevity of our finished product. That equals peace of mind for you.

You could even have cross-section cuts of your product and "inferior product", highlighting where yours is superior.

Emotive responses to facts (ie other guy bagged you out, home owner told you) just end up worse for the person feeling the emotion, and outsources your power to the 'other guy'.

Get your backyard in order, and when such events happen, smile wistfully and say "yes, it seems to be a reoccuring theme. It's a sad way to do business. You're more than welcome to have a look at our website , which we're sure will put to bed any worries you might have.

You've got this Anon. Believe me, when you come face to face with them again, you just give a small knowing smile and a slight head nod. Drives people who are dicks in biz crazy.

“Found in Florida! So one of the owners of a hotel, Judi was walking on the beach this morning cleaning up the junk that washed into shore and finds a bottle with a message in it. There is also some sand and 2 one dollar bills. Once we get it open and read the notes we find out that it is in fact NOT sand. It is the ashes of this woman's husband of 70 years named Gordon. She writes that He loved to travel so she sent him traveling in a bottle with a note and money for someone to call home and tell her where he landed. He started at Big Pine Key in March of 2012 and then went to Islamorada where someone found him. They added a note and sent him traveling again and he landed on our beach in Key Colony. Judi called the wife in Tennessee who was excited to know of Gordon's travels! Judi added her note, we put him in a rum bottle (you know added a little fun to his trip) with the three notes. We added another dollar in case Gordon travels far and a long distance call is needed. We will be having a memorial service or celebration of his life on our beach later today before sending him on his way again."

Small Business BIG Thinking

This woman, my mum, is my inspiration.

One of the kindest, gentlest warrior spirits of all.

Tough as nails in what she can bear and has borne in her lifetime; a gentler heart you'll not encounter.

It was Mum's birthday last Friday. This photo was taken after dinner. Another treasured moment.

Mum taught me the value of wisdom, listening deeply, caring, empathy and a "I can and I will" approach to life.

Today, on International Women's Day, I celebrate my mum and all women like her.

What each have given, so that we can be who we are today.

A reminder that we are equals in this life. We can and must be all that we can be, and that we are worthy of it all💚

Everything we do confirms our beliefs about ourselves, what we do, what is real, not real, true, false.

It draws like people towards us, and turns those not like us away.

Business is the same.

All marketing is a process of selection, deselection.

Drawning those who resonate in closer, instinctively turning those who don't resonate away.

Leadership is the same.

Great leaders stand true to who they are, and inspire and empower others to do the same.

Those who manage, tell.

People either come towards you or move away.

𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰?

In this post are two links to two very different videos, yet two videos which essentially say the same thing.
