Have you ever wanted to learn Mandarin and gain a deeper understanding of one of the world's oldest and richest cultures?

We're delighted to introduce Michelle, our new Mandarin teacher at Boas Language Academy!

Originally from Ningxia in north-west China, Michelle has spent the past 22 years living and working across different cultures, including 12 years in South Africa and 10 years in Australia. she understands the opportunities and challenges that come with learning a new language and navigating different cultures.

Michelle is passionate about helping beginners build confidence in Mandarin. Drawing on her own cross-cultural experiences, she creates a supportive and welcoming learning environment.

At Boas Language Academy, we believe language learning is more than vocabulary and grammar. It's about connecting with people, understanding cultures, and seeing the world through a different lens. Michelle's classes offer students the chance to do exactly that while developing practical Mandarin skills they can use in everyday life.

Whether you're learning for travel, work, personal interest, or to connect with Mandarin-speaking communities, we'd love to welcome you to class.

We're excited to introduce Hassan, our new Swahili teacher at Boas Language Academy!

Originally from Uvira in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he spent many years living in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya before making Australia his home three years ago.

Hassan brings with him not only a deep knowledge of the Swahili language, but also a rich cultural background and a unique life journey that spans countries, communities, and experiences. Through his classes, students will have the opportunity to learn practical Swahili while gaining insight into the cultures, traditions, and stories that make the language so vibrant.

Whether you're learning for travel, work, personal interest, or simply the joy of connecting with others, we'd love to welcome you to our Swahili course with Hassan!

Save the date!! Next language cafe is happening on October 16 ☕️🌎

Whether you’re learning a language, speaking another language at home, or simply enjoy meeting new people, our Language Cafe is a welcoming space for everyone.

Come along to practice your language skills, build confidence, share your culture, or just enjoy a coffee and a chat.

We’ve loved hearing so many different languages around the room at our previous cafes, and we’re looking forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces to the next one.

While the national title went to another incredible finalist this year, we want to acknowledge and celebrate Kristie Ivone, winner of the 2026 NSW/ACT AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award, and the positive impact she has had in our region.

Through Boas Language Academy, she’s turned language learning into a powerful tool for connection, training migrants to teach their own languages and share their cultures across Albury-Wodonga.

This week Boas travelled to Queensland and attended the Social Impact in the Regions conference in Stanthorpe. We were very impressed with the promotion of local businesses in the area - walking the talk on promoting the regions - wonderful to witness and be part of!

A big thank you to everyone who joined us at this morning’s Language Cafe! ☕️🌎

It was great to see the cafe buzzing with conversation, laughter and languages from around the world.

We were also pleased to have local MP Justin Clancy join us for a coffee and a chat, and to experience the community spirit that our Language Cafe is all about.
