For Filipino students — whether you’re applying from the Philippines or already here in Australia, this is something you need to think about carefully.

The level of qualification you choose can affect how long you may be eligible to stay under the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) after graduation.

In general, trade or diploma qualifications may lead to shorter post-study stay options, while bachelor or higher degrees may allow longer stays — sometimes even longer with regional extensions.

But here’s the important reminder:

Eligibility, duration, and extensions depend on government regulations in place at the time you apply.

That’s why course decisions shouldn’t be based on what a friend did, what worked before, or what looks “faster.”
