UniSA Run Free is a brand new 8-week running program for new runners - learn to run 5 km - and it's free!
UniSA Run Free is an eight week running program aimed at people who aren't currently running regularly. This program is delivered via a private Facebook group, where group members can support each other and have access to information and posts to help keep up the motivation. This study is a randomised controlled trial, were participants will be randomly allocated to the group that completes the ru
nning program straight away (late January 2016) or the group that has access to the program in four months time (July 2016). Interested individuals have equal chance of being allocated to either group. The running program itself consists of three sessions per week. These sessions gradually increase in intensity as the participants improve, in order for them to reach the goal of running continuously for 30 minutes, which equates to approximately 5km. The aim of this research study is to see whether a beginners running program delivered via a private Facebook group is effective for increasing fitness and physical activity, as well as improving physical activity attitudes, self-efficacy and social support. Participants must complete an at home fitness test and survey three times. The first one occurring in January, the second in March and the last one in May 2016. These assessments are self-administered and take less than 30 minutes to complete. Participants will also be put into a prize draw for a $300 gift voucher! To register to participate in this project, privately message us your name, phone number and email address and we will be in contact with you shortly.
