Workshop Wednesday | Fabrication Apprentices at Lonsdale

This Workshop Wednesday, we’re visiting Mos’s class at our Lonsdale Skills Centre, where fabrication apprentices Cameron, Tom and Malachy are getting hands-on with their TIG welding unit.

Under the guidance of their trainer, Mos, the apprentices are working through each stage of the practical training and building the technical skills, confidence and experience they’ll need for a career in the fabrication industry.

For students considering their future career options, there are a number of pathways into fabrication and engineering. ATEC’s Engineered for Excellence SA program provides students with the opportunity to explore the industry, develop practical skills and learn more about the pathway into a fabrication apprenticeship.

ATEC Group Training also connects apprentices with host employers across Adelaide, including the northern and southern suburbs. Apprentices gain valuable on-the-job experience while completing their formal training at ATEC, with ongoing support throughout their apprenticeship.

Whether you’re a student exploring your options, a future apprentice or an employer looking to take on an apprentice, ATEC can help you take the next step.

Workshop Wednesday | Solar prac with Electrical Apprentices

This week for Workshop Wednesday, we’re checking in with our electrical apprentices at ATEC Ottoway as they work through their solar panel installation unit with Electrical Trainer, Lionel.

The apprentices are getting hands-on with each stage of the installation, from setting up the panels to working through the practical installation process on our purpose-built roof setup.

And with the sun actually making an appearance on a winter day in Adelaide, the timing couldn’t have been better!

The practical session was also happening right next door to our new Knowledge Hub, where construction is well underway.

The Knowledge Hub will provide our apprentices with a modern learning environment designed to support quality training, stronger industry connections and the development of skilled, job-ready tradespeople.

It’s another exciting step forward for ATEC and an investment in the future of our apprentices, trainers and training facilities.

On Wednesday, Nick Soulsby, ATEC's VET in School Supervisor, welcomed students from Henley High School, Bowden Brompton Community School, Ocean View College and Open Access College to the ATEC Ottoway Skills Centre for a CITB Try A Trade session.

The students had the opportunity to get hands-on experience, explore a trade environment, and learn practical skills in one of our workshops.

CITB Try A Trade sessions are a fantastic way for students considering a VET pathway at school to get a real feel for what trade training involves. They provide valuable insight into the skills they'll develop, the equipment they'll use and the exciting career opportunities that a trade can offer.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope to see some familiar faces back at ATEC in the future!

Today we were delighted to welcome The Hon. Amanda Rishworth MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, to ATEC's Lonsdale campus.

ATEC CEO Greg Bassani OAM and COO Rick Simunsen welcomed Minister Rishworth before Head of Building and Construction, Vito Russo, led a tour of our training facilities, showcasing the hands-on, industry-focused training our apprentices receive every day.
A highlight of the visit was meeting carpentry apprentice Bianca Bilsborow, who shared her apprenticeship journey while demonstrating the skills she's developing at ATEC. Bianca's dedication both in the workplace and as an international box lacrosse representative is an inspiring example of what our apprentices can achieve.

The Minister also had the opportunity to see a range of training in action, including carpentry, electrical, engineering and VETiS programs, providing valuable insight into how ATEC is working with industry to develop the skilled workforce South Australia needs.
Thank you, Minister Rishworth, for taking the time to visit ATEC and for your continued support of apprentices, trainees and vocational education.

Workshop Wednesday
Meet Anantaya, one of our talented third-year Fabrication Apprentices.

This week she's sharpening her advanced welding skills while completing the Perform Advanced Welding Using the Gas Metal Arc Welding Process unit with ATEC Trainer, Mos.

Already a two-time ATEC Training Excellence Award winner, taking out both First Year and Second Year Fabrication Apprentice of the Year, Anantaya continues to raise the bar through her dedication, precision, and commitment to learning.

Her journey is a great reminder of what's possible when passion meets hard work, and it's exactly why we're proud to support aspiring apprentices through our Engineered for Excellence program.

Congratulations, Anantaya, on everything you've accomplished so far. We look forward to seeing what you achieve next.
