South Australian fabrication apprentice Jake Palmer has been named ATEC’s Apprentice of the Year, capping off an extraordinary year of achievement in the trades. The announcement coincided with the launch of ATEC’s new Engineered for Excellence initiative, which is raising the visibility of engineering trades and highlighting exciting opportunities available in these career pathways .https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0WFT40

A recent fabrication apprentice graduate, Jake specialises in custom automotive accessories and high-performance alloy fabrication, including TIG welding for racing and bespoke vehicles. Jake’s work is precise, high-quality, and often on projects where attention to detail is critical, making this an exciting and dynamic career for anyone interested in engineering, fabrication, or hands-on problem solving.

Engineered for Excellence team member Sean together with ATEC BDM Cale are heading to the Career Roadshow in Port Augusta tomorrow, Wednesday, 27 May, at Central Oval!

Ahead of the event, the team travelled up from Adelaide today and visited Port Augusta Technical College, where they toured the facilities and gained insight into the engineering pathways and training opportunities available to local students. While in the region, the team will also be connecting with local businesses and organisations to learn more about the engineering industry in the Upper Spencer Gulf and strengthen connections to the Engineered for Excellence program.

ATEC Unveils Major New Knowledge Hub as Skills Demand Surges Across South Australia | ATEC 25/05/2026

ATEC is proud to announce that construction is about to commence of thier new Ottoway Knowledge Hub, a major investment in the future of vocational education, apprenticeships and industry growth in South Australia.

Following the construction plan agreement by ATEC with Partek Construction & Interiors, work will officially begin on-site in June.

The new state-of-the-art facility will enhance existing classrooms with a modern, technology-enabled learning environment purpose-built for the next generation of skilled workers.

The Knowledge Hub will feature:
⚡ Flexible high-tech training spaces
⚡ Industry and event capability
⚡ Modern student amenities
⚡ Future-focused learning environments
⚡ Expanded capacity to support SA’s growing skills demand

This is more than a building.

It’s a major investment in training excellence, workforce capability and South Australia’s future across construction, defence, engineering and manufacturing industries.

Today, we had the pleasure of taking our valued Silver Sponsors of the 2026 ATEC Training Awards & Graduation Ceremony out for a thank-you brunch at Bloom Cafe.
