He’s back on the mic solo πŸ‘€

It’s been a while since Hutch has done a solo episode, and he’s back all guns blazing...

In this episode, Hutch breaks down how to stress test your farm business and uncover where the real opportunity is.

More land might not be the answer. More profit from the land you’ve already got might be.

What’s the bigger challenge in your business right now: profit, debt or scale?

They run a cropping and sheep operation, including finishing lambs in a feedlot. We spent time talking through their team and their business model together, particularly how to optimise what they already have before any expansion is considered.

There's a real opportunity here to increase their cropped area while maintaining current sheep numbers, running them with more intensity and higher stocking rates. So exciting to see and they're already in a great position, the challenge now is taking it to the next level πŸš€

Rick got a firsthand look at some seriously clever engineering out at "Badminton," Simon, David and Ben's irrigation block near Moura, Qld 🌾

This team run well scaled dryland and irrigation cropping enterprises, showing strong numbers across the board. Simon's passion is property development, and they're currently pulling another 150ha into irrigation for the cotton operation πŸ’§

Their irrigation setup is a unique one and sets them up nicely for more automation as the channel gates are upgraded for remote operation over time. The boys walked us through the engineering and earthworks behind it, harvesting surface water runoff from irrigation and big rainfall events, just brilliant to see.

We spent a lot of time talking through how to systemise their data gathering for benchmarking. Simon also presented a newly developed org chart with himself as CEO, which led to a great discussion on how to free up time to actually honour that role, bringing in the right support looks like the key piece of the puzzle.

They're also working towards finalising succession, with David and his wife feeling ready for some travel ahead.

Great engineering, great thinking, and a great team. πŸš€

Last week, after two days deep in the trenches with our Platinum Mastermind at our Deep Dive workshop, one of our members said something a lot of farm owners will relate to:

"I know what I need to do to get out of the day-to-day. I just feel like I keep getting dragged back in."

Sound familiar? You decide to delegate more. Work on the business, not in it. Then a couple of weeks later, you're back where you started.

There are three invisible forces quietly pulling successful farm owners back into the day-to-day: the hidden patterns that made you indispensable, the structure that's bleeding decisions back to you, and the systems keeping you reactive.

What's really keeping you stuck? Drop a comment, we'd love to hear it.

Register at the link below for next week's free, live workshop is where we help you identify the three forces pulling you back, and the clear path out.

You've built a team. Maybe it's family, maybe it's staff, maybe it's a couple of good contractors.

But be honest... does the farm actually run without you? Or does every decision still land back on your desk?

For many it's the second one. And it's not because they hired the wrong people. It's because the business wasn't built to let them own what they should.

We see three things pulling owners back into the middle of everything, every time:

1️⃣ The pattern that keeps making you the one everyone needs
2️⃣ The structure gaps that quietly hand decisions back to you
3️⃣ The missing rhythm that lets things drift the second you step away

You don't have to keep carrying all of it. We're running a free workshop next week that shows you exactly where to start.

Rick had a very inspiring day with Angie and Brant at their coastal block, "Seabrook," an hour north of Bundaberg. 🌊

Seabrook was a drought mitigation move to complement their main holding at Alpha, in central west Queensland.

Angie and Brant are strongly aligned in business and in life, and it shows. They've submitted two benchmarks (BMAs) so far, both reflecting a genuinely strong business model and solid business health

Labour cost ratio has been a key focus given the travel and staff needed across both blocks. We reverse engineered a target income from their labour costs, and they're already meeting it, giving them the confidence to push into more water points and better rotational grazing 🌱

They've also built a great team around them, for both operations and strategy. With their girls finishing tertiary studies and starting their own careers, it was great to help Angie and Brant think through what's next.

And somewhere in all of it, there's a shared dream of building a "hill house" with sea views one day 😍

What a beautiful part of the world, and what a privilege to spend the day with you both πŸš€

🌏 had a great time on the Gold Coast before heading back to Byron Bay, where Gary and Donna have a property with an interesting history. πŸ›£οΈ

Gary and Donna sold land when the freeway went through, the tunnel is their land on top. After selling that land, they purchased other farms, including one at Tenterfield where James and Sarah are based. They also built a livestock agency business, now run by their son Tom, alongside their cattle breeding and trading operation πŸ„

We spent time talking through what the future looks like, transitioning management first, then assets down the track. Gary and Donna have been so proactive in planning ahead, a real credit to them. Passing on the knowledge of business management and being mentors for the next generation is such a gift 🧑

Thanks so much for having us at your stunning farm in Tenterfield πŸ•οΈ
