They’re about what we notice, what we understand, what we practise and what we carry with us beyond the arena.

A wonderful moment for Alkira Adina Equestrian✨

We’re incredibly proud to share that Alkira Adina Equestrian has been named a finalist in the Educational Services category of the 2026 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards.

With more than 3,500 entries from small businesses across Australia, being recognised as a finalist is a very special achievement.

Education has always been at the heart of Alkira Adina, from riding and natural horsemanship to Equine Assisted Learning and creating meaningful opportunities for people to learn and connect with horses.

We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported Alkira Adina and been part of this journey. This milestone belongs to our wonderful community too. 💛

The winners will be announced on 26 September 2026. Until then, we’re simply celebrating this moment and feeling incredibly grateful to be recognised. 🥰

THE WHAT: What does a horse need?🐴

Before we can understand how to create better environments for horses, we first need to understand what they naturally need.

Horses are designed to move, forage, explore, connect with others and make choices within their environment.

These aren't just nice extras. They are part of what makes a horse a horse.

In this first part of our Track System series, we're looking at the what: the natural needs of horses.

Then we'll explore the why behind each of these needs, and later, the how we can create environments that support them.

Because when we understand the horse first, we can make better choices for them. 🐎

Sometimes, Bella reminds me that not every moment with a horse needs to have a purpose. 🐴

There are days for learning, practising and working towards goals.

And then there are moments like this.

Just resting. No lesson. No agenda. No expectation.

Just being a horse.

I think these quiet moments are easy to overlook, but they can be some of the most valuable ones.

They give us a chance to slow down, breathe and notice what is right in front of us.

What do you think your horse teaches you when you simply slow down and spend time together?

What does good horsemanship actually mean to you?

For me, good horsemanship isn't about being perfect, having the fanciest equipment or getting everything right every time.

It's about the relationship we build with the horse.

It's about being fair, consistent and willing to listen. It's about paying attention to what our horse is telling us, rather than only thinking about what we want them to do.

Sometimes that means slowing down.

Sometimes it means changing our approach.

Sometimes it means recognising that the horse in front of us needs something different today than they did yesterday.

Good horsemanship asks us to communicate clearly, take responsibility for our actions and be willing to learn from the horse as much as we teach them.

For me, the goal isn't simply to have a horse that responds to us.

It's to build a partnership where both horse and rider feel heard, understood and respected. 🤎

And I think that's where some of the most meaningful learning happens.

Which part of preparing for a show would you enjoy most? 🐴

For me, a show experience starts long before you enter the arena.

There’s the horse care, grooming, presentation, checking tack and equipment, understanding what to expect on the day, and making sure both horse and rider are prepared.

But preparation isn't just about getting everything looking right.

It’s also about learning to stay calm, having a plan, understanding your horse and being ready to adapt when things don't go exactly as expected.

These little parts of the process can teach riders so much about responsibility, communication, preparation, problem-solving and confidence.

And sometimes, the preparation itself becomes one of the most valuable parts of the experience. 🤎
