Our HS Girls Softball team did something that no other AISV High School team has done since 2011 - win an overall ISST Championship!
The girls won the championship at the International School of Brussels by going 6-0 in their round robin tournament. Their hitting was unmatched with 9 total home runs and a slugging percentage of over 800. Some great individual performances lead to Emma DeForest, Charlotte Egger and Lina DeForest making the All-Tournament Team.
This historic win capped off an incredible weekend for our entire athletic program. Congratulations to all of our student athletes and coaches who represented AIS Vienna so well at all the end of season events. We had teams travel to locations all around Europe, while we also hosted the ISST MS Girls Softball Championships here on campus. See below for all of the tournament results.

The AISV Buddy Bench has received a wonderful makeover funded by the Annual Fund, featuring a vibrant new sign created by our very own ES Student Council!
First established in 2024 through the collaborative efforts of our Elementary School Counselor, Ms. Guliadis, and the ES Student Council, this special spot is a place where students can sit if they are looking for a friend to play with at recess. This year, our student leaders took complete ownership of the redesign. After brainstorming different themes, they created a survey for our Grade 4 and Grade 5 students to vote on their favorite choice. The winning theme was "Friendships are Blooming," and the students did an amazing job bringing it to life with a beautiful floral pattern!
We are incredibly proud of our student leaders for their creativity and care for their peers, and deeply grateful to our Annual Fund donors for making this meaningful upgrade possible.

This semester, our Grade 6 Knights of Service demonstrated exceptional leadership and civic responsibility through a series of impactful collaborations with our Elementary School students. Whether they were helping Pre-K tidy their outdoor classroom, mentoring Kindergartners during nature hikes and biodiversity scavenger hunts, or assisting with core math and reading skills, our Knights served as dedicated role models. A major highlight included partnering with Grade 3 students for Walk for Water Day, where they co-created informational posters to raise awareness about water scarcity.
These initiatives fostered meaningful bonds across grade levels and divisions, cultivating a spirit of empathy and teamwork that we look forward to continuing next year!

On May 27, Elementary School students concluded weeks of preparation by participating in a Walk for Water event to raise awareness about water conservation and scarcity, while also raising money to support the Mukwashi Trust School in Zambia.
Throughout May, students participated in "Water Wednesdays" and various classroom activities featuring guest speakers and hands-on lessons. They also collaborated with the High School Environmental Club and the Grade Six Knights of Service. As part of these activities, ES students worked with older students to create informational posters highlighting the global effects of water scarcity and to place blue ribbons along the Walk for Water path.
During the Walk for Water, parents joined students from Pre-K through Grade 5 for a walk around campus. To better understand the daily challenges faced by children living in water-scarce regions, students shared the responsibility of carrying heavy buckets of water, averaging about one bucket for every four children. Following the campus walk, the Grade 5 students went on to complete a six-kilometer walk while carrying backpacks with water, which represented the actual distance that women and children must travel to secure water in areas of extreme scarcity. Afterward, the students used the water they carried to water plants around the campus.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who joined or supported this year’s Walk for Water event. Together, we increased our community's understanding of water as a valuable resource and raised €6,100 to support the Mukwashi Trust School.
Special thanks to Ms. Rory Pickett for providing excellent learning engagements over the past month and coordinating the event, and to Mr. Kilian Kröll for sharing vital information about the Mukwashi Trust. Your collective support has been truly invaluable!

On May 27, our High School Book Award Ceremony took place in the Mike Maloy Gym for Grade 9-11 students.
Our High School Book Awards focus on the approaches to learning that maximize educational opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Students are highlighted for their unique collaboration skills, diligent engagement, and disciplined self-management abilities that allow them to be exceptional students. These awards highlight students who are not simply high scorers, but excellent learners embodying our core values of respect, aspire, and achieve.
Grade 12 students will receive their book awards during their graduation rehearsal on June 5.
As noted by many of our HS teachers, selecting the winners for each award was incredibly challenging because we have so many amazing and high achieving students.
Congratulations to all of our 30 High School Book Award winners!

From May 11 to May 21, artist, mural curator and facilitator, and AISV alumnus Nick Platzer visited our Art Foundations, Art Explorations, and IB Art students. Throughout his visit, Nick led hands-on workshops focused on graffiti writing, stenciling, and collaborative art. He encouraged students to experiment with alternative methods and use different tools to leave their mark, emphasizing the open, experimental nature of public art.
The workshops integrated directly with each class's current curriculum. In Art Foundations, students built on their recent street art unit to discuss audience, messaging, and street art safety protocols in Vienna while working on a collaborative canvas near the High School office. Art Foundations students along with Art Explorations students practiced graffiti lettering and created collaborative mixed media artworks on canvas. Meanwhile, our IB Art students took a field trip to view a local mural in progress, where Nick discussed site-specific work, aesthetic techniques, and the practical considerations of placing art in public spaces. Back in the classroom, Nick also provided individual tutorials to help these advanced students refine their independent project plans and incorporate professional feedback.
The students enjoyed the opportunity to learn from an industry professional who once walked the same halls. Seeing an alumnus successfully navigate the art world offered our students a tangible connection between classroom concepts and creative careers.
