🌬️ Before you reach for the AC remote, try this: close the blinds during the day, open the windows at night, and let a fan do the work.
These simple passive cooling habits can help reduce the need for air conditioning while keeping indoor spaces comfortable. 😎
Your dorm, office, or lecture hall can stay cooler while using far less energy. 🌱
Which passive cooling habit will you try today?

In summer, air conditioning is often the biggest energy user in our buildings. 🌡️ Did you know that increasing your AC set-point by just 1°C can reduce cooling energy use by around 6% while maintaining comfort?
Now imagine that small adjustment made across an entire university campus - the energy savings quickly add up. 💡
This summer, we challenge every ABCinEnergy student and staff member to set their AC temperature just a little higher than usual. A small change in habit can make a meaningful difference for both energy use and the planet. 🌍

🌍 Today is World Conservation Day!
This day shares a mission very close to that of ABCinEnergy: raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and conserving the Earth's natural resources, promoting sustainable habits, and supporting the green transition at every level.
It is a great opportunity not only to learn more about sustainability and green initiatives but also to become part of the change by participating in local events, supporting large-scale initiatives, and encouraging the adoption of more sustainable habits in our everyday lives.
Be an agent of change, join us in our mission! 🌱

The summer months are here… and we keep working for the project!
While many are enjoying the holidays, the ABCinEnergy consortium continues to work towards the final phase of the project.
As a matter of fact, the academic year 2026/27 marks the final phase of the ABCinEnergy project. During the months leading up to March, we still have much to offer the European higher education community and everyone interested in sustainable energy behaviour.
The coming months will be filled with national and international events where you can learn more about our project, the Habit Tracker Platform, and practical sustainability initiatives.
To prepare for these activities, the consortium will meet in Alicante this September. Stay tuned - we have exciting news and updates coming your way!

☀️ Summer is here – mind your energy consumption habits! ☀️
As European countries experience extreme weather events more and more frequently, it is becoming almost impossible to avoid using air conditioning on a daily basis. However, there are some simple precautions you can take to avoid excessive energy consumption.
For example, the temperature difference between the inside and outside of a building should never exceed 7°C. A large temperature difference can cause thermal shock and health issues while also overburdening the air conditioning system, potentially leading to malfunctions in the long run.
There are also other small actions you can take to prevent energy waste and protect your health. For instance, avoid opening the fridge repeatedly to refill your water bottle by using an insulated bottle instead, and choose cool rather than ice-cold drinks. These habits not only reduce energy consumption but also help your body maintain a stable temperature.
After all, our bodies have more in common with the planet than we might think!

🏢 Supporting the future of Higher Education!
After the end of the second round of piloting of the HTP, the ABCinEnergy consortium is working for the HEI community across all Europe, with the development of a detailed document for universities that want to improve habits in energy consumption.
The report will include results from the piloting sessions, a recap on the good practices that are being applied and developed, and recommendations for HEIs that are interested in replying to the experience of ABCinEnergy project.
If you also want to participate in making energy consumption more sustainable, either as an individual or an institution, stay tuned! In the next months the report will be freely available on all our platforms.

🎓 The academic year is coming to an end – what sustainability habits will you take into the summer?
Before the break begins, take a moment to reflect:
🔹 Did you switch off lights and unused devices?
🔹 Did you choose sustainable transport when possible?
🔹 Did you make use of natural daylight?
🔹 Did you avoid leaving devices on standby?
Summer is the perfect time to keep building positive habits:
☀️ Use natural daylight whenever possible
🔌 Unplug electronics when not in use
🌡️ Use cooling efficiently
💧 Save water to save energy
Sustainability is not about one big action – it is about small choices repeated every day.

Big news from the ABCinEnergy project!
We have officially completed the second piloting phase of the Habit Tracker Platform. This phase focused on testing the improved version of the platform, which had been updated based on feedback and insights collected during the first piloting phase.
Students, academic staff, and administrative teams across different higher education institutions tested the revised Habit Tracker and shared their experiences using it in practice. This helped us better understand how the platform supports more sustainable daily energy-related habits.
The next step is focused on continuous improvement. We are now collecting and analysing feedback, suggestions, and insights from testers to further refine the platform.

🌱 On 11 June, our partner World University Service (WUS) Austria had the pleasure of participating in the Sustainability Day at FH JOANNEUM in Graz, Austria, where they presented the ABCinEnergy project to students, academic staff, and other interested participants.
Throughout the day, there were many valuable conversations about energy awareness, behaviour change, and the role of higher education in creating a more sustainable future. Our partners from WUS Austria were also inspired by the other organisations represented and by the insightful lectures and panel discussion held in the afternoon.
Events like these demonstrate the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange in advancing sustainability within higher education and beyond.

🌏Global Wind Day 2026
Today we celebrate Global Wind Day, an opportunity to reflect on the role renewable energy plays in building a more sustainable future.
Wind power is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy sources worldwide. It helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, decreases dependence on fossil fuels, and supports the transition to cleaner energy systems. However, creating a sustainable future is not only about producing clean energy – it is also about using energy more responsibly.
At ABCinEnergy, we believe that lasting change starts with everyday habits. Turning off unnecessary lighting, unplugging unused devices, using equipment efficiently, and making conscious energy choices can significantly reduce energy consumption over time. When responsible energy use is combined with renewable energy sources such as wind power, the positive impact becomes even greater.
💡Did you know?
A single wind turbine can generate enough electricity to power thousands of households each year, depending on its size and location.
