Mechanics
Hip Hop Dance Defined
Hiphop dance can be defined in many ways. It is a blend of different styles of street dance and interpretations per culture that portrays the appearance, attitude, stance, music and elements of the urban community to make it original hip hop. With every generation of new dancers and crews, the hiphop dance evolves and continues to transform itself.
MECHANICS
1. Group photo
2. There will screening for all the teams who wants to join. Each group will send a 1 minute video dance not later than May 8, 2023 and it will be sent to Mr. Joseph Roy Lachica (messenger)
3. Only 10 groups will advance to the competition.
Music
1. All songs used in the performance piece must be appropriate and suitable for any age. Foul taste in music such as profanity will result in disqualification.
2. The dance crew is responsible for bringing a back up CD or music all the time in case it is needed.
3. Music length must be a maximum of three (5) minutes. Time of the routine begins with the first audible sound and ends with the last audible sound.
Costume
1. Crews are allowed to remove some parts of the costume during performance, as long as it is not offensive or out of character. These pieces of clothing or accessories that will be removed must be placed outside the stage area. It is prohibited to throw any piece of costume to the audience area.
2. It is prohibited to use body oils and other substances or effects that may affect the dry surface of the stage area. This might compromise the safety of other competing crews.
3. Footwear is required during performance. Members of the crew can wear dance shoes, sneakers, boots, but NOT jazz shoes, tap shoes and bare feet.
4. The crew is allowed to wear caps, gloves, scarves, jewellery & accesories. Other supporting accessories that will allow for safe and proper ex*****on of choreography is allowed (knee pads, knee support, etc) as long as it is hidden or part of the whole effect of the costume.
Props
1. Using big props are not allowed
2. Cap and other accessories etc. can be used as props, as long as these are considered part of the costume.
3. Using of pyrotechnics is prohibited
Technical Equipment, Sound and Lighting
1. The organizers will provide professional sound and lighting during the competition. They will not entertain any special effects or requests that come in from the crews with regards to sounds and lighting.
2. A member of the crew is required to report at the technical sound booth before the start of the competition to listen and check whether the music on file is correct.
3. The organizer does not guarantee the speed control or pitch of the equipment.
Stage Blocking
1. Each crew will be given five (5) minutes to block on stage on the day of the competition, unless unexpected circumstances prevent a stage blocking. It is the responsibility of the crew to arrive on time for their stage blocking.
2. The time allotted can include a walk-through and one rehearsal with music.
Competition Proper
1. The organizer reserves the right to stop the performance due to an obvious injury. Should a team's performance be interrupted by an injury, the team will be allowed to re-group before performing their routine again.
Criteria for Judging
Each crew must be evaluated according to the following criteria:
Choreography 15%
The crew will be judged according to originality, musicality of the choreography that they used for the piece.
Ex*****on / Form 10%
It is important that everyone maintains control throughout the whole routine. Proper form must be seen.
Mastery of Street Dance Style 15%
The members of the crew must be able to successfully execute even the complex choreography. Any street dance style such as locking, popping, breaking, waacking, house, krumping and other hip-hop or street styles can be performed as long as all members of the crew exhibit mastery of the style.
Synchronization 10%
The whole crew must perform the whole routine in a synchronized way. The entire group must follow proper timing and speed.
Audience and Appeal Factor 10%
The crew must successfully connect with the audience. They are encouraged to make the spectators feel excited, joyful, or dramatic in relation to their piece.
Elements and Blocking 10%
It is important for the crew to show awareness of elements and blocking throughout the performance. Complex, challenging and unpredictable transition, elements and blocking that are pleasing to the eye will be considered.
Stage Presence 10%
The crew must have a strong projection while onstage during performance and should not drop their character at all times. Confidence, enthusiasm, passion and intensity must be seen in each of the members of the crew while onstage.
Costume 10%
Costume or attire of the crew must exhibit a genuine example of hiphop. Accessories and clothing will be judged if it represents the street style. Reminder that theatrical costumes such costumes, mascots and the like are not representations of the urban hiphop or street style.
Creativity 10%
Perform your routine in a creative & unique way. The judges will look at how fresh and matchless the routine is.
Total: 100%
Protests
The judges' decision is final. Any protests are prohibited and will not be entertained.
