When asked what I want from a trip, I share that I want to not only fall in love with a place through the beauty of its outdoors, but I want to leave feeling connected to the people. Specifically the women of the country.
This farm to table experience was literally the magic that I look for. Fumi has built a business sharing her passion for food education and the importance of locally farmed food. We learned about a local farmer's family operation, walked the farm fields, saw the cold storage kept cold by snow from last winter, and learned about sugar beets!
Lunch was made from food grown on the farm and cooked by the young women working for Fumi and whom she is mentoring.
Fumi was very surprised that we were a group of women from all over the US in this small community in Hokkaido. I shared that we were there specifically because we want to support and get to know local women entrepreneurs and crafts people who are passionate about sharing their culture and stories. 🫶
