SS Atlantic Conveyor was a British civilian container ship that was requisitioned and converted into an aircraft and helicopter carrier to support the British Task Force in the Falklands War of 1982. This ship sailed to the South Atlantic carrying various aircraft and helicopters, including Harrier/Sea Harrier, as well as essential equipment and supplies for military operations. The use of civilian ships like this is part of Britain's efforts to expand logistical and aviation capabilities during campaigns far from the British mainland. 🕊⚓🇺🇸

On May 25, 1982, while in the vicinity of the Falkland Islands, the Atlantic Conveyor was attacked by Argentine Super Étendard aircraft and hit by two AM39 Exocet missiles. A large fire broke out on the ship, and rescue efforts were made by nearby British vessels. Atlantic Conveyor then sank on May 28, 1982, taking with it several helicopters and important equipment. 12 personnel were killed in the tragedy, making the sinking of this ship one of the significant losses for the UK during the Falklands War.
