Who are we?:
TRP was an idea that was created by 2 friends back in 2007...we were both new to Montreal and crazy about Cuban salsa and especially rueda de casino. It was at this time that we discovered Orlando Alfonso and his dance school Cuba Baila, the only place to learn rueda. There we met a lot of people just like us and we would meet at the studio every Friday night to relax, unwind and dance rueda. Two years later, for health reasons, Orlando slowed down his activities at the school and we lost our meeting ground. Even more sadly, we lost our dear friend in 2011. In 2009, we decided to bring together a few friends to organize practices, workshops, rueda picnics, and other events. It was a lot of fun and we'd meet at clubs as often as we could to dance rueda. In 2010, we had to take a few years off for personal reasons but we never lost our love for rueda so 2 years later here we are again. We want to create a fun, collaborative environment where we can share information about outings, figures, techniques and most of all dance! So we are not a school, we are a group of passionates about rueda de casino and that want to share our learnings and love for dance with each other. Our philosophy:
First and foremost is to have fun together. There’s a place for everyone! Spread our passion for rueda, keep learning and evolving rueda together in Montreal. What is Rueda?:
Rueda developed in the 50s and 60s in Havana but really gained popularity in the 80s. Rueda (de casino) is salsa danced in group format. Pairs of dancers form a circle, with dance moves called out by one person. Many moves involve the changing of partners and changes in direction. Many describe it as the most fun you can have dancing salsa. It's great to be able to dance together as a group and have fun....mistakes are part it! Rueda is social, good exercise and it's a great outdoor summer activity!
