Did you know your favorite songs are the best grammar lesson? The Subjunctive is the verb mood for desires, doubts, and emotions in Spanish—and music uses it constantly!

* Más te Vale — Yami Safdie (2025): The influence and warning (“Más te vale que vengas...”) demonstrate a natural and powerful use of the subjunctive.
* Que Me Quedes Tú — Shakira (2001): The projected desire and will (“Quiero que me quedes tú...”) are expressed using this verbal mood.
* Ojalá — Silvio Rodríguez (1978): Pure desire is expressed with the subjunctive. A Cuban classic that is pure poetry.
* Solo le pido a Dios — León Gieco (1978): The plea and the petition, a central use of the subjunctive to express hope. An Argentine rock gem.

Don’t say this in Spanish!
❌No problema.
✅No hay problema.
In Spanish, to indicate the existence or nonexistence of something, we use “hay” (from the verb “haber”).
❌Estoy caliente.
✅Tengo calor.
“Estar caliente” in Spanish refers to sexual arousal. For thermal sensation, we use the verb “tener.”
❌Es mucho caro.
✅Es muy caro.
“Mucho” is used with nouns: “mucho dinero,” “many people”). With adjectives (like “expensive,” “pretty,” “big”), we use “muy.”
❌Soy de acuerdo.
✅Estoy de acuerdo.
“Estar” is used for temporary states, while “Ser” is used for permanent states.
Example: I am Argentine (permanent)
I am happy (temporary)

En español, para indicar la existencia o no existencia de algo, usamos “hay” (del verbo haber).
