After years of translating, I realized I no longer speak in one language at a time.

Words come from both. Ideas start in one, finish in another. You switch without noticing, not because you mean to, but because both feel like home. Perhaps this is what it means to be truly bilingual.

You catch yourself reaching for a word that doesn’t exist in the language you are using. You pause, translate it silently, and move on. There are moments when the right word doesn’t exist, and yet, in that silence, meaning is born.

Translating has never been just about words, it’s about learning to live between worlds. You start thinking twice, feeling in two directions, realizing that every language reshapes how you see, listen, and remember. You rejoice in the gift of having gained another culture.

With time, you start hearing how one language shapes the other. You speak differently, maybe softer or more carefully, because you have seen how fragile meaning can be when it crosses from one world to another. Cultural awareness and Empathy grow.

And somewhere in that space between languages, you find your own voice, made of everything you have translated and everything you have come to understand.
