Can anyone translate this meme? And find the noun with an unusual prepositional case ending?

Итак, the prepositional case got its name because it’s used only after certain prepositions (so wow)

📍Locative prepositions В (in) and НА (on). Some books refer this case as Locative, because it often indicates WHERE and WHEN the action takes place.

– Где ты купил эти прекрасные кроксы? (Where did you buy those magnificent crocks?)
– В магазине (not магазин) в новом торговом центре (not центр) на Красной площади (not площадь) в Москве (not Москва). (In a store in a new shopping mall on the square)
– TMI.

🔎Content prepositions О and ОБ (about).

Я всегда думаю и говорю о еде (not еда).

PS. The difference between О and ОБ should be uncovered in another post... probably. This is an interesting topic 🙂

=====You could have noticed already that formation of the Prepositional is easy=====

🥇If a noun in Nominative ends with ИЯ (Мария), ИЙ (Юрий) or ИЕ (оружие-weapon), you change the last letter to И.
🥈If the noun is feminine + ends with Ь (ночь, кровь, любовь), change Ь to И as well.
🥉Everything else → E in the end.

Bonus shout-out to one group of masculine nouns with unusual ending У/Ю (в лесу, в носу, в году etc) that confuses even natives. I will tell you the story of this form next time. So it won’t be as frustrating as it already is.

«YOU ARE NOT FRIENDS» I explode every time when some of my english-minded-friends tell about someone they just met in a bar.

Конечно, I understand, they are used calling a lot of people «a friend». But in Russia, you should deserve a right to be called like that.

😏Stages of getting closer😏

❄️Мы просто знакомы – acquaintance. Literally it means «we are just acquainted». You know bare minimum about this person, and very likely don’t really like them, so you are emphasizing the fact that you are not even talking besides «Hi!»

🌧Знакомый, знакомая – a guy/girl I know. It is someone you see often (like collegues, neighbours) but you are not close at all.

☁️Хороший знакомый, хорошая знакомая – I think somewhere here an English «friend» has its start.

🌥Приятель, приятельница – On-its-way-to-become-old-fashioned way to identify someone you know and with whom you can easily chat about random things.

🌤Друг, подруга – A friend (important note: not in a romantic way). Even thought in English there are boy-, girlfriends, which is not the same here. If you call your Russian loved one другом или подругой (instrumental case here), you are gonna have a really bad time.

☀️Близкий друг – Someone really important to you, whom you trust, love etc. I find it very funny that Instagram has a «close friends» feature, but basically they are just people you know and don’t care if they know you drink alcohol.

Wow, the phone is a part OF my hand already… Let’s talk about the GENITIVE case 🏡

The easiest way to recognize this case in Russian is to find a preposition «OF». Let me show you.

😎 Possession and origin. It is basically the meaning of OF preposition.
President of country. Президент страны (not страна).
Beginning of a song. Начало песни (not песня).

😭 With the NO (нет). You can think of it Russian way with «lack OF»
No pain no gain (=lack of pain means lack of gain). Нет боли (not боль) нет победы (not победа).

🤑 Quantity words and numbers. In English we use similar constructions such as «a lot OF», «hundreds OF», just expand this.
Two (of) dollars. Два доллара.
Bonus point: if you invert the number and the noun, the meaning is «approximately». Доллара два (about two dollars)

🥰 Prepositions to use the genitive with.
БЕЗ (without = lack of), ВМЕСТО (instead of), ИЗ (out of), ОКОЛО/У (by, by the side of).

=====How to put a noun into gen=====

👨Masculine or 👽neuter gender? Put А/Я in the end.
Рубль – рубля. Небо (sky) – неба.

👩Feminine (and masculine with A/Я endings)? Change last vowel to Ы/И.
Москва – Москвы. Россия – России (I wanted to be a little of a patriot here 🇷🇺)

🤝Окей, accusative is often used to indicate a direct object of the action.

👉And also can show the direction with some prepositions (В to, НА on)
Еду в Москву, Санкт-Петербург, Казань (I’m going to Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan)
NB! в, на can be used with prepositional case as well, if means LOCATION (not direction).

🖕with prepositions ПРО about, ЧЕРЕЗ through, ЗА for. (just because)

=====How to put a word into acc?=====

Feminine, has А/Я in the end? Change those vowels to У/Ю.
Люблю страну. (I love a country)

Inanimate? Then don’t bother yourself, the word won’t change.
Ненавижу государство. (I hate a(!) government)

Animate? Just add some A/Я in the end (probs to make it looks more feminine idk)
Жду друга (I wait for a friend)

When I was a kid I was extremely confused by a concept of “a foreign language”.
Why do people from other countries make their life so complicated? They think in Russian, but have to translate their thoughts to any other language just cause they don’t live in Russia... And I was quite shocked after realisation that not everyone in the world knows Russian! It felt so wrong and unfair.
Probably that’s why after all these years I started to teach foreigners my native language 🥰
I am sure the Russian language is an affordable luxury for everyone.
So... 6 of June is the Happy Russian language day 🎉

🇷🇺Когда я была ребёнком, я была очень сбита с толку концептом «иностранный язык».
Почему иностранцы так усложняют себе жизнь? Они думают на русском, но должны переводить свои мысли на любой другой язык только потому, что не живут в России... И я была в шоке после осознания того, что не все в мире знают русский язык! Это казалось так неправильно и несправедливо.
Наверное, поэтому после всех этих лет я начала преподавать русский иностранцам 🥰
Я уверена, что русский язык — это доступная роскошь для каждого.
