¿Por qué América Latina fue elegida como espacio de migración desde la conquista hasta la segunda posguerra? ¿Qué efectos tuvo la formación de una subjetividad mestiza sobre la identidad cultural latinoamericana? ¿Cómo pueden leerse las migraciones internas, tanto desde el campo a la ciudad como entre países latinoamericanos en la formación y alteración de las identidades? ¿Qué huellas literarias y cinematográficas es posible reconocer de las migraciones indígenas, europeas, rurales, africanas, latinoamericanas y asiáticas hacia y en el continente? ¿Cómo explicar la transición de América Latina de sitio de recepción de inmigrantes a núcleo de emigrantes que viajan desde el sur hacia el norte?

América Latina, como América del Norte es una región del mundo con una cultura diversa formada a partir de la mezcla de componentes de otras latitudes. A pesar de que en los últimos cincuenta años la región se convirtió en origen de un éxodo hacia los Estados Unidos y Europa, continúa sin embargo recibiendo tanto inmigrantes provenientes de nuevos destinos (África, China), como inmigrantes internos de la región (Venezuela, Haití, Nicaragua), que procuran una vida mejor sin abandonar el continente.
