🚀 Curious how the brain picks between danger and reward?

📄 This study uncovers a key neural circuit that stops food-seeking when threats arise. Dive in to explore the brain’s inner conflict switch!

Animals constantly balance seeking food with avoiding predators. Here, the authors report that CRF positive neurons in the paraventricular thalamus projecting to the nucleus accumbens in rats are an indispensable component of a feedback circuit that can interrupt appetitive behaviour in favor of a d...

🚀 Why do some animals take risks while others play it safe due to fear?

📄 This study uncovers how brain activity in the prelimbic cortex drives split-second decisions between fear and reward.

📄 These findings have implications for human behavior, as we, too, constantly weigh risk and reward—sometimes choosing caution, other times bold action—based on similar neural mechanisms.

A combination of electrophysiological and optogenetic approaches revealed a causal role for glutamatergic neurons in the prelimbic cortex in regulating individual differences in decision-making strategies during a threat-avoidance vs. reward-approach conflict paradigm in rats.

✨Seminarios EiNS - Explorations in Neuroscience Seminars ✨

👤 Prof. Dr. Gabriel Mindlin (UBA, CONICET, Argentina)

🧠 New Publication Alert from the NeuroAI Lab!

"Minute-Scale Oscillations in Sparse Neural Networks"
Published in Hippocampus (Vol. 35, Issue 4) by Jose A. Fernandez-Leon
