🌱 Strengthening International Cooperation for Sustainable Agriculture 🌍

On July 7, 2025, the Armenian National Agrarian University / ՀԱԱՀ (ANAU) and the "Strengthening Organic Agriculture in Armenia" (SOAA) project participated in the Armenian-Austrian University Cooperation Information and Networking Meeting, hosted at Yerevan State University.

This inspiring event, organized in partnership with Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) and the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC), brought together academic leaders, researchers, and development practitioners to strengthen international partnerships and promote sustainable development goals through higher education and research.

During the event, Ms. Mariam Movsisyan, Vice-Rector of ANAU, and Ms. Lusine Nalbandyan, Head of the SOAA project, shared ANAU’s ongoing efforts to foster participatory education and knowledge exchange in organic agriculture. Through our collaboration with BOKU University (Austria) and with the support of the APPEAR programme, we are working to build resilient agri-food systems, empower young professionals, and advance research-based solutions for Armenia’s sustainable rural development.

🤝 This meeting highlighted the power of academic partnerships in addressing environmental and agricultural challenges, creating opportunities for young researchers, and building strong institutional ties across borders.

🌿Bio-Landgut Esterhazy, situated in Donnerskirchen near Lake Neusiedl, is one of Austria’s most prominent organic farms. It spans 2,200 hectares of certified organic farmland and serves as a model for sustainable agriculture. The estate emphasizes biodiversity, regenerative soil practices, and animal welfare, with a diverse rotation of crops and livestock including Angus cattle, free-range chickens, and heritage breeds like Zackel.

Beyond farming, the Bio-Landgut is a vibrant destination for visitors. Guests can enjoy daily farm tours, dine at the award-winning restaurant Zum Gogosch, where we have enjoyed our lunch, and shop at the Markthalle Kulinarium Burgenland, which offers organic meat, local wine, and artisanal products. The estate also hosts seasonal events such as family festivals and the Organic Field Days, making it a hub for culinary and cultural experiences rooted in sustainability.

Our team spent a day at the Esterhazy farm, unfortunately the weather was not so inviting 😄☂️ It was inspiring to see sustainable agriculture in action—biodiversity, organic practices, and a deep respect for nature woven into every part of the land.
