SCiDEV and the Albanian Helsinki Committee (Komiteti Shqiptar i Helsinkit) have jointly published the policy paper “Human Rights Protection in the Age of AI”, addressing the rapid use of AI technologies in country amidst the absence of a comprehensive legal, ethical, and institutional framework that fully and inclusively guarantees the protection of fundamental human rights, transparency, and public accountability.

This policy document presents the first analysis of its kind in Albania, assessing the current situation, the legal and institutional framework, existing practices, and the alignment with European standards for AI governance. It introduces a set of recommendations for both the transitional and long-term phases of AI governance in the country, putting an emphasis on strengthening transparency and accountability of practices, as foundational for upholding human rights.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming academic life, offering powerful opportunities for creativity, research, and critical thinking, while also introducing new ethical and integrity dilemmas around authorship, transparency, and responsible use.

Within the framework of the EDUFAIR Project, and as part of the 7th Edition of the Week of Integrity 2025, SCiDEV, in partnership with the Tirana College of Technology, is organizing the workshop “Academic Integrity in the Times of AI – Upholding Ethics While Pushing Boundaries.”

The workshop will provide interactive sessions, combining short presentations, live demonstrations of leading AI tools, group discussions, and guided critical analysis. Delivered by SCiDEV experts Dr. Erjon Curraj and Orkidea Xhaferaj, it will help students identify risks such as algorithmic bias, hallucinations, and blurred lines of authorship, while exploring ethical and responsible use of AI in academic writing and research.
