How to Love Programming

1
Get lots of sleep. Because you will likely spend a lot of time in front of a computer when you are programming, it is advised to get lots of sleep before hand. Make sure you are awake and alert

2
Take breaks. Looking at a computer screen for a long period of time puts strain on the eyes, and the mind. Take short breaks every hour or so. Within these breaks you can have a power nap, read a book, pay the bills, anything which does not involve electronics

3
Be passionate about your project. If you are developing something which you are not passionate about, then there is something wrong. You must be determined to get through the project, and complete it.

4
Plan ahead. Try to know what you are going to do, and when. Organize your time, so when you sit down to begin programming, you know what you are going to do, whether it is improving UI, adding features or debugging.

5
Get into a routine. Try and create regular time periods to program in. You may even look forward to starting your days work. Don't leave a project to rot, unless you are leaving it forever, keep it active, otherwise you may begin to doubt it, which will in result lessen your chances of Step 3!

6
Don't do it just for the money. You may be programming within work, or as a hobby, and very likely, you are doing it to get paid. Problem is, if you are really not enjoying it, then stop it, quit your job (be careful though) and do something that you enjoy.

7
Don't leave programming if you find it frustrating. Programming becomes real problem sometimes. But don't ever leave it.

How to Begin Computer Programming

1
Decide what you would like to do with your programming knowledge.

2
Once you decide what you want to accomplish, start reading and find out what programming languages are used. For game making, it would be beneficial to learn one of the C languages. For web development, you should start with HTML and CSS and move on to whichever server-side language you require, such as Perl or PHP.

3
After deciding on your programming language, do some more research and find out what you need to test it. For example, if learning PHP, you will need to download and install a server such as Apache, as well as PHP itself. For a C language, you might have to buy a program, however there are good programs you can get for free to compile a C language.

4
Start reading. Start by the manual for your program, and work your way through the examples

5
Once you feel comfortable with your language, decide what your first project will be.

6
Start programming.

7
Once you finish your first project, move on to a slightly more difficult project.

8
Eventually you will have enough of a grasp of the language and its syntax, as well as the "theory" of programming, that you can complete more difficult projects.

9
Find a good mentor. A good mentor will accelerate your learning process and help prevent you from making common mistakes.

Computer Science is different from

Computer Engineering: The study of computer hardware design and the physical circuitry that make up computers. This field is related to electrical engineering and traditionally emphasizes a hardware up understanding of computers.

Computer Information Systems: The study of the use of computers and computer software to solve business problems. It concerns learning how to set up systems to solve specific business problems, for example, tracking inventories, printing payroll checks, analyzing sales. CIS majors study some programming, but generally without the technical depth required to produce large and complex software.

Information Technology (IT): The study of information technology in order to be able to maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot computer systems used within an organization. IT is focused on solving systems problems and setting up computer technology for use.
