Ever seen a text message from an Emirati friend that looked like a random mix of letters and numbers? 🤯

No, they aren’t sending you math equations or secret spy codes. They are texting in Arabizi.

Since early mobile phones didn’t have Arabic keyboards, locals got creative.

They used English letters for normal sounds

and numbers for the unique Arabic sounds that English doesn’t have.

If you want to understand Emirati WhatsApp groups, you must know these shortcuts.
