I’ve broken down the key things UAE teachers should know about maternity leave - including how much leave you’re entitled to, how it’s paid and what happens if you need additional time.

After 6 years of living and teaching in the UAE, there was one thing I kept noticing… 👀

Teachers were looking for tutoring opportunities.

I’m sure everyone here in the UAE would agree that this year has been TOUGH.

We’ve lived through some really uncertain times, and I know personally I’ve felt ALL of the emotions - worry, doubt, uncertainty, sadness…

But through it all, there’s one thing that has kept me going and helped me keep the faith and that is community 💜

Teacher wellbeing isn’t always about doing more… sometimes it’s about asking teachers what could be taken away. 💜

Don’t get me wrong, we LOVE the doughnuts, dress-down days and little treats (please don’t take those away 😂), but sometimes the things that make the biggest difference to staff wellbeing are actually the simplest:

⏰ Giving teachers back some of their time
🍽️ Protecting proper lunch breaks
💻 Keeping PPA protected
🪑 Making sure staff have comfortable spaces to actually work
📧 And yes… occasionally making that meeting an email

This isn’t about criticising schools that make an effort. In fact, quite the opposite! There are some schools doing brilliant things to genuinely support their staff and we’d love to hear about them. 🥰

And yes… ALL of these are based on VERY real experiences. 😭

Teaching in the UAE really does come with its own collection of sentences you never imagined would leave your mouth.

From explaining that 29°C is not woolly-hat weather 🥵 to discovering some rather questionable items in school bags… there’s never a dull day. 😂
