Easter is here and that means chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate!

- Be mindful of how much chocolate your child is consuming, especially in the evening, as it can interfere with their ability to fall and stay asleep
- Make sure to incorporate healthier snacks and meals throughout the day to help balance out their sugar intake and improve their sleep quality

Today is World Sleep Day 2023. Created and hosted by World Sleep Society, World Sleep Day is an internationally recognised awareness event bringing researchers, health professionals and patients together to recognise sleep and its important impact on our health.
This year the theme is ‘Sleep is Essential for Health’. Just like eating well and exercising, sleep is a behavior that is foundational to one’s physical, mental, and social well-being. Sleep should be the very first medicine prescribed by doctors in all medical fields. An adequate quantity and quality of sleep is the secret nectar to our health.
Finding a balance between our children’s sleep and our own sleep is one of the most complex parts of early parenting. Sleep is the first encounter of parenting - and you may ask how?
-build a healthy sleep foundation
-be mindful of nutrition
-be mindful to keep the body moving, outdoors (even better)
-and connect with your unique value system to support and restore sleep

Getting enough sleep is crucial for your baby's growth and development. Remember these are guides and some children may require more or less sleep than the averages listed here. As a parent, it's important to pay attention to your baby's individual sleep patterns and adjust to support your child’s individual sleep needs.
Identifying your baby's individual sleep needs can take some time and observation, but there are a few things you can look out for to help you understand your baby's sleep patterns. Here are some tips:
💤 Pay attention to their sleep cues
💤 Keep a sleep log
💤 Experiment with nap and bedtime routines
💤 Watch for signs of overtiredness

Wondering why your newborn is a noisy sleeper? 👇
Newborn sleep looks quite different from the outside. Compared with adult sleep, newborn sleep can be very restless. This is because babies spend a large portion of their sleep-time in “active sleep,” a light sleep stage characterised by:
💤 fluttering eyelids
💤 rapid, irregular breathing
💤 frequent twitches and body movements
💤 vocalisations (such as grunts and brief cries).
The movements and noise can sometimes fool parents into thinking their babies are awakening or signaling for attention — a complication that can lead us to intervene when it isn’t necessary.
