If you want an open-door policy, try this one: Open your office door and walk out of it.

When was the last time you actually spent a day on the "frontline" of your business?

It’s easy to stay tucked away in the office making "strategic" decisions, but if those decisions aren't grounded in what’s happening on the ground, they’re probably wrong.

Leaders who stay distant lose the trust of their team and the reality of their operations. By showing up where the work is done, you send a clear message: I’m in this with you, and I care about the details.

Direct engagement leads to:
✅ Faster problem-solving.
✅ Better accountability.
✅ A team that feels heard and respected.

Don't let a "chain of command" become a "chain of misinformation." Get out there and see it for yourself.

As a leader, you are never 100% in control. Are you prepared for when things go sideways? You must always maintain a reserve of time, money, manpower, and resources. When life or business throws a challenge at you, your reserve is what allows you to hit back.

Are you building reserves or running on fumes?

Follow my pages for more leadership advice on how to scale your business.

In my 14 years in the army, we were taught that if you don't have a plan and you don't have reserves, you're setting yourself up for failure. I've learned that in business, it is no different.

Strategic leadership isn't about "corporate" jargon; it’s about how you navigate uncertainty with professional discipline. I’ve taken three core principles from my military background that every business owner needs to implement today to stay resilient:

- Challenges with Incentives: Targets are useless without stakes. You need clear rewards for success and real accountability for failure. Your team needs to know exactly what they are working toward.
- The Power of Reserves: Never "redline" your business. Whether it’s cash, time, or your own health, you must maintain a reserve. If you have to tap into it, you replenish it immediately. That is how you stay agile.
- Proactive Improvement: When things get difficult, the only question that matters is: "What can I do right now to improve my situation?"

Stop reacting to your business and start leading it with precision.

If you are leading everyone on your team the exact same way, you are doing it wrong.

Leadership is not one-size-fits-all.

A great leader adapts their style to what each individual needs to succeed. It’s an art form, and just like any art, it takes practice, practice, and more practice.

Ready to master the art of adaptive leadership and get the best out of your team? Follow my pages for more leadership tips.

Do good employees keep leaving your company? Why? Simple: They can’t see your vision.

Humans are wired for growth. Once we achieve one milestone, we look for the next. If your business has no clear vision, your top talent will realise there is nowhere left for them to grow and walk out the door.

Don't lose your best people to a lack of direction. Learn how to articulate a powerful business vision - follow this page.
