Picky Eating is a sensory experience but what can shape our relationship with food is the association we develop with it.
If eating food becomes an issue in the house- the child may view it as something to be afraid of, something negative and instead pf benefiting the body- the body rejects it as something unsafe.

The last thing an autistic child (much like neuro typicals ) want to hear in the midst of a meltdown is to STOP or CALM DOWN.

If you are working in academics with your autistic child while not helping them with impulse control, task initiation, task completion and cognitive flexibility you are left with ONLY managing behaviours no academic progress.

The difference isn’t more therapy.

It’s what happens at home.🏡

You cannot outsource regulation.

You cannot outsource motherhood.

What ever activity you choose for a child in the spectrum - we need to ensure it is child led just like we would if they were neurotypical.

Forcing an activity on them when they are not ready is the worst thing we can do to our minimally verbal autistic children.

In the Autism Community we support Autism moms to become the best version of themselves- because your identity goes beyond that of only a mom- you were a wife with dreams.
