✈️ IATA DGR 68th Edition Update — Marking and Labelling

Effective 1 January 2027, the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations introduce important updates concerning battery marks and overpack markings.

🔋 Key changes include:

✅ The previous battery mark containing a space for a telephone number has been phased out. Shippers are encouraged to obtain and use the current version of the battery mark.

✅ Packages displaying the previous battery mark should not be rejected solely because the old mark is used, provided the required information remains compliant.
✅ When a shipment requires both the battery mark and other hazard labels—except the Class 9 lithium battery label—the battery mark must be placed on the same surface as the other hazard labels.
Staying informed about regulatory changes is essential for ensuring safe, compliant and delay-free dangerous-goods shipments.

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES AND AMENDMENTS — IATA DGR 68th EDITION (2027)

Section 4.2—List of Dangerous Goods includes the following new entries:
🔹 UN 3561 — Chlorophenols, corrosive, toxic, solid, n.o.s.
🔹 UN 3562 — Chlorophenols, corrosive, solid, n.o.s.
🔹 UN 3563 — Lithium metal batteries installed in cargo transport unit
🔹 UN 3564 — Sodium ion batteries installed in cargo transport unit
Organizations involved in shipping, freight forwarding, acceptance, handling and air transport should review the complete IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, 68th Edition, update their procedures where applicable and ensure that relevant personnel receive appropriate training.
