I feel that many parents with special needs children do not know that government here offers good services that can help you and your child. You need help and should know of a proper channel to get that! To get services here for special needs people, your son/daughter must first of all be part of the system for people of determination. I’ll tell you here how it goes;
1. Get your child diagnosed from a government hospital not private at all because that will not be accepted.
2. Get all kinds of reports such as diagnostic and intercultural ability. This might take a couple of months.
3. Apply for a people of determination status and card through Zayed higher Organization.
4. You can do it online or go to any TAMM office
5. The status is usually granted in a couple of days.
6. Go to schools and apply for a special needs placement based on this status and card. They will listen to you.
7. Look for special needs schools not regular one as regular schools will rip off your money with several pre- requisites such as personal assistants, special education care etc.
8. With the POD card your child will be entitled to free healthcare and rehabilitation.
9. And above all educational discounts. All discounts for entertainment places for him as well as accompanying parent.
10. He will be able to get free taxi services, NOL/Halfat card etc. These will be helpful for him in future as he must go out and enjoy.
10. POD benefits are for all inclusive of expats.
11. The POD status will be renewed every year.
