We all get complacent—stuck in the same drills, the same routines. *Guilty.*
But here’s the truth: Real progress happens when you’re uncomfortable. When you suck. When you fumble, get frustrated, and feel like a total newbie again.
That’s where the magic happens.
Yesterday, Dyllan and I dove into new combos—mostly pad work, light but solid. It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t smooth. But damn, it felt good to struggle, learn, and level up.

When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone?
I won't dare for one second to offend Muay Thai practitioners and please bear with me, these are Muay Thai combo's but I sure ain't no Muay Thai practitioner.
Have mercy this was after an hour and thirty minutes of training, I was finished.
However if you really want a "simple" way of training cardio this is very difficult to beat.
You might want to beat yourself up for doing this but will be too tired!
The Harsh Reality of Accredited Close Protection Training in South Africa
Picture this: You invest anywhere between R30,000 and R90,000 in an accredited close protection course, only to discover that the training doesn’t even permit you to carry one-up.
Now, imagine being declared "competent" to carry a handgun for work—your crowning achievement? A basic business purposes qualification.
What does that entail?
- Firing 5 rounds, reloading, then firing another 5 rounds.
- At just 7 meters.
- In a generous 20 seconds.
- Oh, and you’re allowed to miss twice.
There's another qualifier as well equally terrible.
What truly frustrates me is that industry "experts" on standard-generating bodies are the ones endorsing this subpar standard.
Over the years, I’ve reviewed hundreds of CVs—all boasting accredited certificates, yet almost none demonstrate tangible firearm skills beyond that piece of paper.
Even worse? Many applicants defend the "no one-up" policy. Sorry, but in my view, that makes you unemployable. I can’t, in good conscience, place you in a high-risk environment with such inadequate preparation.
The truth? The local protection industry is in deep trouble—just like many others. I’ll expose the flaws in local close protection training standards and share how I actually prepare for contracts.

Don't have the mindset that "you will get stabbed" if you get stabbed then you'll just have to deal with it. You could then also argue that if someone pulls a firearm on you that you will get shot.
Cultivate a good mindset and deal with problems as they come.
