Our talented Grade 12 Visual Art students had the exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in South Africa’s rich artistic heritage during their visit to the prestigious Iziko South African National Gallery (SANG). Nestled in the heart of Cape Town’s Company’s Garden, this iconic museum offered our learners a powerful visual feast of contemporary and historical art from across the continent and beyond.

The visit formed a valuable part of their visual art curriculum, allowing students to engage firsthand with the diverse styles, techniques, and themes explored by celebrated artists. From thought-provoking mixed-media installations to timeless works rooted in traditional methods, the gallery offered a dynamic and deeply reflective experience. Students were particularly captivated by pieces that explored identity and culture, narratives that echo the themes in their own matric practical portfolios.

The grade 11 students went on their excursion around the Cape Peninsula. We started our trip on the Atlantic Seaboard and headed out towards Hout Bay.

They experienced first hand how intervention against rockfalls are done and the amazing engineering that makes Chapman’s Peak known as one of the most iconic and scenic coastal journeys.

We also experienced the Boulder’s Beach Penguin Colony where they saw Geomorphology and the link between Paarl Rock and the Boulders where penguins roam.

After Simon’s Town, we drove past the iconic Muizenberg and the updated seafront.

A beautiful day spent out in nature! 💚

Dear Fairmont High School Community,

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Headmaster, Mr. Leon Erasmus.

Mr. Erasmus was a man of immense strength, integrity, and honour. He led our school with unwavering dedication and a deep sense of purpose, showing us - his family, our staff, students, and the wider community - what it truly means to fight. Fight for others. Fight for good. Fight for progress. And above all, fight to live.

Today, we mourn the loss of a remarkable leader and human being. But more than that, we celebrate a life that left a lasting mark on each of us. His legacy of courage, compassion, and excellence will continue to inspire Fairmont for years to come.

While our hearts are saddened, we are deeply grateful to have had Mr. Erasmus lead us all. He was not only at the helm of our school; he was at the heart of it. His legacy will live on in the values he upheld and the lives he touched, his guidance, vision, and spirit will forever remain part of our fabric.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, daughters, son-in-law, grandson, mother and all loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We will share details of the celebration of his life, in due course.

With respect and remembrance,

Fairmont High School

Throwback to last week:
Our English Department went out of their way to support the Matrics as they tackled Paper 2.

In their English lessons, our students explored how the novel ‘Life of Pi’ uses the colour orange as a symbol of hope. The tiger, Richard Parker, ultimately ensured Pi’s survival.

As English teachers, we sent our Matrics buckets of ‘hope’ that day - helping them survive and thrive in their mission to achieve top marks.

Well done, Matrics. We 🧡 you!
