Chess News:
On Saturday, 15th February, Zakariyya Gabier participated in the Welgemoed Primary School chess tournament in the U12 age group.
This age group saw 70 contenders compete in the tournament. Zakariyya’s starting ranking was 31st. After match 2, his ranking changed to 1st.
Unfortunately, he lost his third game but won all the others (5 wins from 6 games) and ended 4th in the rankings due to the system they use when there is a tie between those in 3rd and 4th position with the same number of points.
He was awarded the bronze medal for the U12 age group. Well done, Zakariyya.
